Publisher's summary

Some people say that it’s a demon-haunted world. That certainly is true in Gus’s county around Halloween, mostly due to the digital demons plaguing Gus this year that live inside the new Pakiman game. There’s also a fancy Halloween party to deal with, to which everyone who is someone is invited—and that includes Gus. If getting a costume for a party he doesn’t want to go to was his worst problem, it would be a fun holiday season. Unfortunately, someone keels over dead in the free-cheese section of Fit Foods, and that opens the door to murder. That open door leads Gus right into the world of the occult. Gus suddenly has an oracle, a thug, a druid, an aeon, a Freemason, a member of the Majestic Twelve, and a warrior of the Krypteia to deal with. One of them poisoned a man in order to summon a demon just in time for Halloween, but which one? He’d find out more quickly if they’d stop killing each other in rather inhuman ways. And as if a collection of occult nutters wasn’t enough to deal with, Gus also has to deal with chain-smoking Mexican mobsters, a grinch-like pastor, a death row dog, and a Shakespearian play. It’s enough to make a sheriff wonder why a demon would really want to come here.Filled with quirky characters and biting social satire, A Tale Told by an Idiot: A Sheriff Gus Mystery is a fast-paced cult mystery-thriller about an aging sheriff in an inhuman world.
