Publisher's summary

How does one accept a gift from death when death is the very enemy that took your loved one away?

Death has come bearing gifts for me more than once. Tightly bound in grief, these gifts are hard to unwrap, yet it is only in the unwrapping that we reveal the lesson and ease the grief. Our burden becomes lighter, and our soul expands. Can you prepare for such gifts, or is it only in hindsight that grief can mend our broken hearts?

Chronicling the deaths of a lover, my father, and my only son, A Series of Surrenders is not only a love letter to them, but it is also a lesson in making friends with grief and learning to love again. Dive into the depths of grief and the hope of what is possible when a broken heart repairs and a soul expands in lessons of love.

If you've loved and lost, this is for you.

Grief is something that has always shrouded my life through the loss of relationships with the still living. Grief soaked in guilt drove me to endure and carry the blame, then I got to dance my dog through death over a year ago. She was the one that allowed me to finally transform guilt free grief into the greater understanding of life, love, surrender and being more than I could ever imagine I was. Ironically I had a one on one session with Deb 6 months before Nom-ah died and she prepared me with a little bit of her sparkle for a greater journey I had no idea was coming.

Deb tells her own story and journey of grief in a universal way that echoed the feelings and revelations of my own. She spoke from her own experience, but through her reflections, honesty and understandings she held space for my story alongside hers. She has a knack with communication and words that speaks directly to your heart, its her story but its also ours. Its raw, messy, hard and honest, and Deb does not shy away from that. There will be shared tears, laughter, sorrow and comfort.

If you’ve loved and lost, this is the audiobook for you.

Big love, and big thanks for this incredible gift you’re sharing Deb. Sparkle on!

Spellbinding Stories of Love and Grief

I'm so glad I listened to the author read this, though I will definitely be returning to it in print as well. Debra is a wonderful storyteller and her journey is made even more inspiring and moving by her reading of it. This book is equal parts heart-breaking and heartening, and I had a tough time turning it off. When I was listening, I often found myself replaying sections over again. I think one of the marks of a great read is in continuing to think about it long after you've finished, and this one fits that bill.

A Long Conversation With a Good Friend

This was so beautifully written (clean, with straight lines) about journeys with death and grief, the bitch. It rang true on many different levels for me and said things that I needed to hear. A great companion for someone struggling with loss.

More than Surrendering - It's about intention

I love a good memoir for the story line. I love a good story with a lesson. And I love a good lesson with inspiration. Lately, I have looked past all of these and craved stories about intention - recognizing it, realizing it and reaching for it. This book/memoir/story/lesson/inspiration is all about intention. I especially treasure hearing it in the author's own voice, as a narrator can often miss emphasis. With a podcast about grief, I read every book I find about the topic - but this is so much more. It's about where grief can take you and what you can do with it. I'm starting my second listen - I just know there are tidbits I missed on my first listen. Thank you Debra Lynne Driscoll for being brave enough to share!

Experiences of Love, Loss, and the Magic of Life

A beautiful story of Unthinkable Pain, Resilience, and The Faith it takes to make it through. Grateful to experience it in the authors own voice as I could FEEL each recollection of story and emotion.

Clear Your Schedule

Once you have this book in your library, clear your schedule because once you start listening, you won’t be able to stop. This is the most suspenseful memoir I’ve ever read/heard. I found myself crying and cheering Deb D. on as she shares her vulnerable journey with us. She is an incredible story teller and it’s as if you’re in the same room with her.

Moving and comforting

I listened to the audio book in one day as I was deeply moved by Debra's story. She is a fantastic story teller and she obviously has a very special story to tell. The book is beautifully written and you can sense with every work that it comes from the heart. You are left with a sense of awareness of how fragile life can be but also with a renewed knowing that love can transcend everything no matter how challenging your path. I absolutely loved listening to this audio book!
