Publisher's summary

What is it like to learn that your ordinary, loving father is a serial killer?

In 2005, Kerri Rawson opened the door of her apartment to greet an FBI agent who shared the shocking news that her father had been arrested for murdering 10 people, including two children. That’s also when she first learned that her father was the notorious serial killer known as BTK, a name he’d given himself that described the horrific way he committed his crimes: Bind, torture, kill. As news of his capture spread, the city of Wichita celebrated the end of a 31-year nightmare. For Kerri Rawson, another was just beginning. In the weeks and years that followed, Kerri was plunged into a black hole of horror and disbelief. The same man who had been a loving father, a devoted husband, church president, Boy Scout leader, and a public servant had been using their family as a cover for his heinous crimes since before she was born. Everything she had believed about her life had been a lie.

Written with candor and extraordinary courage, A Serial Killer’s Daughter is an unflinching exploration of life with one of America’s most infamous killers and an astonishing tale of personal and spiritual transformation. For all who suffer from unhealed wounds; the crippling effects of violence; betrayal; or anger, Kerri Rawson’s story offers the hope of reclaiming sanity in the midst of madness, rebuilding a life in the shadow of death, and learning to forgive the unforgivable.

A lot of religion

As the name implies, it’s VERY religion-focused. I definitely enjoyed hearing about her journey and appreciate her telling her story. But for those that aren’t super religious, it’s kind of a lot of bible talk. I think the conversation surrounding PTSD is important.

Fascinating Story!

An incredible story, told from a very personal space.
Loved the book, but was continually irritated by the narrator’s saccharine sweet tone. It was like listening to Betty White’s character Rose from Golden girls reading this book! I would recommend this title, however, I would read the hardcopy instead of listening to the audio version.

Powerful, poignant and emotional

I'm so glad that Kerri Rawson was brave enough to share her story with the world. Yes, there's loss, tragedy and sorrow but there is also love, hope and forgiveness. Thank you Kerri for sharing your story and your truth.

More Than A Headline

Whenever a story such as BTK breaks on the news, I always think about the vast number of people affected. ALL of the innocent family members that are left to process the tragedies created by these complicated "monsters" boggles the mind and the heart. The author did an excellent job sharing the humanity of her father without excusing his atrocities. God bless all the families affected by this man!

Narrator

i would have liked to hear the author’s voice. The narrator sounded like she was reading a children’s good night book. I found it distractingly times. This story is not Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf

Narration takes awhile to get used to

I really enjoyed hearing the perspective from the daughter of a serial killer. It's interesting how someone was able to live such a double life, undetected for so long. I think this story could have been better with a younger narrator though. It was confusing listening to a first person narrative of a young woman in her 30s from someone who sounds like Rose from the Golden Girls. She would fit well in other stories.

loved it!

If you want a true crime book this is not it. This is the life story of the daughter of a man who turned out to be a serial killer. You get to experience her childhood thru adulthood living with this man, her biggest memories of him, and why it was so hard for her to believe that the guy who raised her could possibly be the same man who committed these terrible acts. When she finds out about him she shares her battle of coping with it and how it's affected her life and the life of her family. She does a great job, I listened to this over two days, I didn't want to stop listening it's very well told. So if your interested in this part of the story I highly recommend this book. If you just want gore and scene details you aren't going to find them here, so it's not the one for you. I personally think she's amazingly strong, determined to get thru and have a good life for her children! I hope she realizes how amazing she really is.

I enjoyed her story of faith and healing. I wish her happiness for her and her family. I do wonder how her mother and brother are doing.
