K. J. Charles turns up the heat in her new Society of Gentlemen novel as two lovers face off in a sensual duel that challenges their deepest beliefs.

Silas Mason has no illusions about himself. He's not lovable or even likable. He's an overbearing idealist, a radical bookseller and pamphleteer who lives for revolution...and for Wednesday nights. Every week he meets anonymously with the same man, in whom Silas has discovered the ideal meld of intellectual companionship and absolute obedience to his sexual commands. But, unbeknownst to Silas, his closest friend is also his greatest enemy, with the power to see him hanged - or spare his life.

A loyal, well-born gentleman official, Dominic Frey is torn apart by his affair with Silas. By the light of day, he cannot fathom the intoxicating lust that drives him to meet with the radical week after week. In the bedroom everything else falls away. Their needs match, and they are united by sympathy for each other's deepest vulnerabilities. But when Silas' politics earn him a death sentence, desire clashes with duty, and Dominic finds himself doing everything he can to save the man who stole his heart.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"This book is so good I read it in one sitting. I just couldn’t put it down. K. J. Charles has long been one of my favorite authors, and this book doesn’t disappoint. A Seditious Affair is a beautiful love story interwoven with the realism of the political unrest of the time - another winner from K. J. Charles!" ( USA Today best-selling author Carole Mortimer)

The Story: 4.5 Pants Off

KJ Charles has done it again!! Like this be mad hot fire and out of this world brilliant.

Silas is a cranky man, he’s a radical and he makes no illusions about who he is and what he believes in. Domenic Frey is on the other end of the spectrum, he’s a man with money and prestige who likes to get off in the seedier parts of town. What he doesn’t know is that his Wednesday hookups is none other than radical Silas, and the rest you can say is history.

There’s gonna be spark, there’s gonna be fire, there’s gonna be glorious fecking.

The writing is superb, if you wanna jizz in your pants off some words, this is the freaking series for you. Multilevel characters, a story that’s inclusive and A Sedious Affair is the story you don’t want to miss.

And while it’s all glorious and sexy it doesn’t shy away from the reminders that two men in or just men being together is exponentially dangerous and could lead to a hanging.

How does one remain with their Pants 👖 on for this remarkable piece of work?!

I recommend it, if you love historical romances, and I recommend it because KJ “fantastic” Charles did the darn thing 💁‍♀️

The Narration: 5 Pants Off

Somebody call 911...cus there is a fire burning in my pants 👖 ooohhhh.....

Mathew Lloyd Davies you are the G.O.A.T for all things British right now. His voice, his take on the characters, his flair for making an already incredibly scene extraordinary is just...

Amazing!!

I absolutely love this book, naughty and sweet. With a plot line and good characters with personalities.
And the best narrator did an amazing job making this very enjoyable.

Loved it

Typically, when characters have a kink for dubious consent, it's written with one character taking advantage of them as they get off. Which is, let's be fair: Illegal and pretty darn messed up.

It was an absolute -delight- to see how Mason developed ways for them to communicate consent without words since Dom was so keen on being 'forced' and likes to verbally say 'no' in bed.

I also like the relationship between Dom & his bestie. Too often, kinky characters have kinky friends or at least understanding friends. To see someone have to -adjust- to the idea is just so very human. So real. Yet, it was done without malice and I appreciate this story so much for acknowledging that Dom's a little different, but not making the plot all about that particular struggle.

In fact, the political tension is what makes all of these Society of Gentlemen books so great. The romance and friendships are all treated with equal importance and the reader really ges a feel for these men's personalities & motivations.
I absolutely recommend you read this, right now!
Or um
Listen to it

Kink done right!

What a talent this author has, I have liked or loved each book I have read so far. This particular book was more on the difficult side for me because while I can handle some lighter D/s situations, I don't care for humiliation. But I will say, that the way this book is written, I honestly feel Silas's love and caring in all he is doing for Dom, it's made clear it's a game that is played for Dom's needs and I appreciated that. I will also say that it was a step too far for me in the mention of cuckolding. I , personally, want to read a romance where when two people fall in love they don't want to share, but that's just me, I know not everyone feels that way and I respect that. Not that that happened in this book, it did not. This was such a complex story that I didn't know how the author would resolve it, but I trusted KJ Charles to do just that:) Silas is written as such a gnarly man, but after reading the first book and this one, he has the most loyal heart, the most protective love and I see him then through the eyes of love and he becomes beautiful. The narration by Matthew Lloyd Davies is just stunning. Not only his different voices, but the gentleness he gives Silas when he murmurs "My Tory", or Richards uptight, suffering confusion over Dom. All done so amazingly well. I have more I would like to say, but I may spoil and I really need to get started with my next KJ Charles book!

KJ Charles cannot write a bad story

One of the many things I appreciate about KJ Charles writing is how well researched are all her books.

A Seditious Affair is a wonderfully written and entertaining story that mixes politics and sex perfectly.

Mathew Lloyd Davis performance was top notch.

I don’t read much historical romance, but this one was great—the plot, Silas and Dom’s stalwart defense of their disparate political beliefs, but the respect they still feel and (mostly) show for one another and the historical dynamics of that time in England’s history all work together to create an appealing and insightful story. Additionally, the narration is wonderful and definitely adds something to an already great story.

Excellent

Dominic and Sylus . they are two of the opposites and at one point Shakespeare literally has to tie them together. Reminds me of Romeo and Juliet but with BDSM and posh. Very political but in the best way possible, they both fight for justice and judicial system and have to manage their relationship being on opposite ends. The ending was very, anticipating. I think I'm going to enjoy the next installment more because Syprius seems like a very interesting character and it seems like Richard will alter his views as well a bit. All the characters are so hard willed I love it! It's a very common theme in KJ Charles' work and I'm hella here for it.

It's difficult to keep up with in the beginning because I was trying to recall the first book and what happened where etc. but I get passed all the jumble.

This book really made me feel bad for the characters in that it is illegal for them to bed each other. It's the same for her other books but that one scene in this book really made me afraid for them. I love that the author doesn't surround the main story around it, well they do but it's not the main theme of the book. Much like her other novels.
2021 is filled with KJ Charles.

I’m never clear how authentic the language is to the historical setting, but it’s clear that Charles has done some research into the slang and dirty talk of the era. While it saddens me to know this, it is in keeping with the historical setting that the laws of the time made both writing and acts highly illegal. This book, for example, would have (a) never been written, but, if it had, (b) been illegal to sell. I am thankful to live in a much more free time. In this novel, these themes and more are explored through the love affair between opposites, in an early BDSM type relationship. About the only things they agree on are the value of books, that men who have relations with men probably shouldn’t be hanged, and that they fill each other’s needs. Some of the political positions of the time are restated, possibly to help the modern reader understand the thinking of the time, especially the thinking of the historical noble class, but the true value is the love affair, and how both Dominic and Silas learn to compromise, or perhaps that they were never as far apart as they thought.

Not only a great m/m romance, one of the best historical romances I've read so far.
Wonderful narration, I fully appreciate this narrator's skill with varried accents, from a Tori Dandy, to a rough bulldog from the poorest London, to whiney cockney'd nefarious characters.
Ensure you start from the beginning of the series.

A wonderful m/m historical romance.

Did I ever mention that madam K J Charles is an awesome author ...if I did not I think she just surpassed that position, because I really have to look for better word than awesome...wait...wait (quoting Julius😊). K J charles is an incredible writer of extraordinary stories. She brings real characters in the mix of history and mystery🤓. I never thought of BDSM romance my choice of reading till I read this book. Yes, there are instances that will make a reader like me cringe a bit, but Charles is articulate enough to steer her readers through with a good dose of romance and suspense. Oh dear! I wish I had paid more attention to mystery novels. Nevertheless, the romance tops everything in this one.

It's a slow burn, and what a burn it is(^_-). Silas Mason or Brute or the radical sedationist (aka werewolf named by Julius again(・ิω・ิ) wasn't looking for love, but he found his release of something more every Wednesday curtsey a BDSM play craver Tory or Dominic Grey - the home office official. They were seeing each other for a year and surprise surprise were not even aware of each other's names, forget about real identity. So you can imagine what happens when they are thrown into the mix of reality. There is angst, anger and feeling of betrayal, but what comes out of it all is how these two almost middle aged men coming from very different lives find each other. There is care, affection, understanding, respect and most of all love between Silas and Dom. They remain together, knowing certain boundaries they cannot cross, but the danger is always lurking in the background. Sometimes, it was frustrating to see why Silas was being so stubborn, but one cannot sacrifice their believes no matter how hopeless a situation gets and that made me love Silas so much. Dom had his own struggles, he wanted Silas safe and loved by him and yet he knew he cannot have Silas without his radical self because that's what made Silas who he was. The struggle of these two made my heart quench(¯―¯٥).

If you have not read the first book of Harry and Julius, you better...to get an understanding of the first half of this book. This is not a standalone and all the side characters play a part in this political romantic mystery drama. Bringing out the historical instances like Peterloo was such a powerful angle in this book that it kept me hooked to listen till the end.

Narrator - Matthew Lloyd Davies is fast becoming one of my fave m-m romance voice actors. I think I can safely pick any of the books read by him, because he just makes the characters come alive. You always need a tight script to have a convincing act. Well Ms Charles is an awe-inspiring script writer and Mr Davies did the rest with his voice. If only I could give this book more than 5 stars 💓💓💓💓💓.

Radicals & Tory...bring it on!
