Publisher's Summary

The brand-new heartwarming romance from the Sunday Times best-selling author of A Country Escape and A Secret Garden.

Caro Swanson has taken a job in a remote part of Scotland.

She’s answered an ad in The Lady: being a companion to an elderly gentleman who lives in a country estate could be perfect! Surely it is time to make a change and do something different for a while?

The fact that she may also see Alec, the young man whom she met some years previously and whom she has always thought of as her ‘one who got away’, is of course purely incidental.

Soon Caro is falling in love - not only with Alec but with the stunning house and grounds she is now living in. But the estate is in financial difficulties, and it quickly becomes apparent that there is only one way to rescue it.

So begins a magical romantic summer that will take Caro to London to the south of France and back again to Scotland in search of a classic lost perfume that might just restore all their fortunes.

Romance, humour, a cast of warm and totally believable characters and the possibility of happy ever after lie at the heart of Katie Fforde's wonderful new novel.

Brilliant

I am a big Katie Fforde fan & I was not disappointed.
Jilly Bond's accents don't get any better but that just makes you smile not get irritated.
The story was addictive in such a nice way.
Can highly recommend.

A must for fforde fans

I’ve been looking forward to this audible release for some time . I enjoyed the story as it was set in various locations and somewhere other than the Cotswolds. Though I do love those ones too. The characters are fun and I enjoyed the relationship that developed between scarlet and Rowan .
One of those books to listen to whilst working away or doing chores or like myself trying to get to sleep .
Narration is great jilly is so suited to Katie fforde and really does bring the characters to life
Audible can we please have a release of both highland fling and thyme out read by jilly

Warming and lovely

This was my first ever Katie Fforde novel. I listened on Audible. The performance was excellent from the actress and the characterisation of story is really descriptive and relatable. Off to download my next Katie Fforde!

Good Listening

Good storyline, set in London, Scotland and France. Audible helps to bring it alive with the different accents, which I don't think you would get from reading. Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommended especially to fans of Katie Fforde.

I didn't want it to end

I fell head over heels in love with the characters in this book, I inhaled it in 3 days.

Katie's books are some of my favourites and I always feel as though I miss the characters once the book is finished.

I could read about these people all the time.

What a beautiful book.

Easy storyline

Easy storyline, somewhat predictable. I persevered as the accents by the narrator were awful & seriously difficult to listen to the stereotypical Scottish shrill & the American drawl.

Charm but not so much romance

Katie Fforde has been one of my favourite authors ever since I discovered her many years ago, however I found this book harder to get into than usual. I found the characters less engaging too. The overall story line while good, isn't as engaging as her usual books, perhaps because the romance side wasn't as strongly in evidence. I liked the idea, it has charm, it just felt like someone else was writing this one. Jilly Bond is always a good narrator, however I wish I had a graphic equaliser so I could make her tones a little softer on the ears, obviously she can't help her voice, but why can't we tweak things like this on the App?

too many accents...

A bit predictable but probably would have enjoyed more in book form. Although clearly talented at accents I found the narrator to me like the many different changes of voice between gender and accent very annoying

Very enjoyable

Good chic lit romance .. easy listening.. I like jolly bond .. but writing is bit wordy so that can be bit annoying but generally doesn’t spoil nice easy story.
