Publisher's Summary

Sadie Schrock swore that she would never marry. All of her other Amish friends could court and marry; she was content to manage the family business and eventually take it over when her parents were ready to retire. But all of that changes when a reckless driver kills both of her parents and seriously injures her younger sister. With mounting hospital bills adding to the pile of debt her parents left behind, Sadie is left with no choice: She must marry. And not just any man - the man who saw her at her weakest and walked away.

Aden knows that what his brother did to Sadie years ago was inexcusable. And every day since that incident, Aden has lived with guilt for not intervening sooner. When he is faced with the chance to protect Sadie once again, he can't let her down - even if it means living with the scorn of the woman he loves for the rest of his life.

Good and not so good

The story is good. The narrator is terrible. Speed up the narration to 1.25 and it will help.

Terrible Narrator

I returned this book because the narrator was terrible. her performance is stilted, choppy and monotone. There is little difference between the voices of different characters I could have read this book better and I can't read out loud worth beans.

couldn't even listen

I couldn't get into the book long enough to even know the story. The narrator was so awful. She sounded like google assistant was reading. Everything about her voice was robotic. Her punctuated, overly emphasized narration was so horrible it made it impossible to listen.

Issues with the Narrator

The narrator reads well. In the role of the narrator, she does beautifully. However her tone of voice for the characters seems off, especially for the males. The tone usually seems unnatural, unfeeling, and overly harsh.

Not Reluctant to Listen to it Again

I have listened to this book twice. Once when it first came out and then today. I couldn’t remember all the details of the story from the first time so listening again was just as pleasurable this time as the first time. The narrator was well versed in the Amish dialect with a clear voice that gave you a clear picture in your mind of what was happening. The story line was unique as Kathleen’s stories usually are. To touch on the different personalities as she did in this book and to make it all come together smoothly is a talent. Overall I again enjoyed this book and I’m not reluctant to possibly listen to it a 3rd time in the future.

Narrator Too Slow

I didn’t finish this book. Perhaps I’ll read it sometime, but I found this narrator way too irritating. I changed the speed to 1.25 & that was a little better, but still jerky, uneven reading.

good story, but so-so narrator

narrator needs to stop reading it by saying random words louder like they are more important. Story was awesome, though. I would have rather read the book than listen to this narrator, though.

Horrible Narrator

I couldn't listen to this for long. The narrator is horrible. It's choppy and sounds extremely weird and just off. You can't understand the story because of how horrible the narrator is. Absolutely returning this book. I would rather read the book myself.
