1 of many opinions

I love this book because it is authentic. I also love my traditions and how my culture has shaped my beliefs. I agree that monogamy is outdated and unrealistic. Been married, was cheated on. Dated,
been cheated on. I call it cheating still :) will I ever find monogamy? Probably not, but I don’t depend on it for my happiness anymore. I’ll get a dog and a community to fulfil my needs - I’ve had enough horrible and nice relationships to tie me over until my inevitable death. I wholeheartedly agree on being enlightened and loving yourself. But I hope my ideal of
finding a monogamous relationship will happen - it would be nice :) I would never become a psychologist because you have to see everyone’s perspective and I’m sure psychologists are some of the most enlightened people but I choose to keep some of my cultures traditions in tact! Great listen! Enjoyed the book over all.

A Masterpiece! 😍😍😍

An Epic journey of self love, awareness, empowerment and accountability. Narrated with conviction & eloquence by the author. By far my most favorite book of 2021 . Dr. Shefali's understanding of human behavior especially those of women combined with her personal story makes this book impactful.

Pop psychology self help book

Being interested in psychology I was intrigued when I heard about this book. It is written by New York Times best selling author Dr Shefali Tsabary who has appeared on the Oprah TV show and is known for having views on conscious parenting.
Narrated by the author, this is primarily a self help book aimed at empowering straight cis women and is based on the author's strong opinions rather than anything evidence / research based. There is plenty of discussion of biology versus culture and how addressing pain is painful and needs an emotional seat belt and how easy it is to become caught in a fear / blame ./ shame cycle.

Despite the fact that this book is mostly the type of pseudo science found in glossy magazines and not particularly radical, there comes a point in everyone's life when it is time to remove obstacles to live as your authentic self and this book will serve as a useful catalyst for those in search of inspiration to take the first step towards this.

It was okay

I'd say the book started off great. But i quickly found myself skipping bits because the book turned very boring and negative. Ended up regretting my purchase.

not so great as I expected

the book starts off great but got so boring when she went on about divorce and then really confusing when she started talking about how humans are animals and sexuality. I'm an open minded person but this was so bizarre and no real solid explanation to her conclusions.

So many words yet so little content

I'm all for a self-help book however I returned this title a few minutes into Chapter 4. I'm not even sure I can review the few chapters I listened to as nothing really sparked my interest enough to remember it. From 3 and a bit chapters I gleaned that the author thinks all women are hiding their 'true self', that they will have to unlearn everything. The author seems to think women need to be told to be supportive of one another and that women attack and push comparisons on each other. Isn't that a bit of a reach? I'm always supportive of other women. She also seemed to imply (to paraphrase) that we shouldn't want botox and push ourselves to look better than other women as that will put unnecessary pressure on them and that we are Ok sagging and ageing. What if a woman wants to look good for herself? What if it makes her happy? Now she needs to feel bad because her wanting to look good makes someone else feel bad? I know that's probably not what she meant however I could see after 3 and a bit chapters that this book would not really offer anything of value to me. If it cannot grab my attention within chapter 1 then it's not going to be worth sticking with and she seems to be framing women as victims. Women aren't victims.
This seems to be a book for someone who is new to their self-help and development journey. For someone more confident and aware this isn't for you.

Fascinating

I could relate to so much of the book, my awakening had already begun, without realising, this helped me understand what and why. I would love a version for my teenage daughter, although I hope she will learn as she sees me trusting my own voice.

A manual for every woman.

This book is a must read and for me will be my companion in awakening. Put this work alongside Dr Jill Bolte Taylor's and I don't think you need much more to accompany your spiritual practices. This book is my missing piece. Thank you Dr Shefali x

Takes to long to get to the point

Listening to Shefalis voice is soothing, but I feel the book could be shortened.
I found the content to be repetitive in parts, and may suit women who are very submissive or from East Asian background.
I’m 10 chapters in and I’m getting bored. I hope the second half becomes more interesting.

Waste of time

There is nothing radical about this book. The amount of metaphors and comparisons used to describe authors point of view are so rich and plentiful you tend to just drift off. And her approach to “men being wired to cheat” is just so sad and outdated it left me doubting her whole “awakening”. Thank you but no thank you…

Suitable for beginner awakening, bit patronising

Narration is ok, many interesting perspectives and pieces of information but the author is very presumptuous of the reader's point of view, experience and culture which dampened my experience.
I continue to read on since there are many interesting insights to be learned and questions raised but I found many statements about "most men", "most women" and "culture expects" to be strongly out of alignment with my experience being an Australian born in the 80s.
I have found her explanations of "what women want" to be extremely uptight and racist and I couldn't relate, but if you have not undertaken much personal development perhaps this would appeal more.
I recall Oprah spruiking Dr Shefali and, as such, held her in high regard without researching ratings or the author. I am not compelled to hear more from her after this book.
It feels as though she's saying she's the only one who is so awakened living the only right way and the reader is locked in unhappiness. I couldn't relate to the presumptions but appreciate the growth it afforded me.
