Story
Paulie Vergen is your average, everyday vampire. He's short, overweight, and balding, and he's a bit lacking in the realm of self-confidence. Life was what it was for Paulie until the day that a newly infected werewolf landed on his doorstep. That day launched the one (and only, to this point) adventure that Paulie had ever had ... and it was a doozy.

Story
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Publisher's Summary
A drunk wizard. A lizard starting a nudie magazine. A former apprentice seeking revenge.
After hundreds of years of wizardry, Master Whizzfiddle wants nothing more than to sit back and relax for the rest of his cursedly long life. His vindictive ex-apprentice has other plans. With a legal challenge out for his cushy guild membership, Whizzfiddle has 30 days to undertake a near-impossible quest....
To get the eternal rest he craves, the lazy wizard must travel with a band of creatures cursed to live out their worst qualities. Returning the ugly elf, the huge dwarf, and the terrified knight to their former glory will take courage. It’ll take perseverance. And for Whizzfiddle’s magic to keep him from a lifetime of hard labor, it’ll take a whole lot of booze....
A Quest of Undoing is the enchanting first book in the Ononokin comedic fantasy series. If you like absurd humor, original characters, and seeing fantasy tropes turned upside down, then you’ll love John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young’s epically zany tale.
Fans of Terry Pratchett, Robert Asprin, Piers Anthony, Discworld, Xanth, Myth Adventures, and/or Monty Python will have a blast with the hilarious Ononokin series.

Lighthearted, funny flight of fantasy
Would you try another book from John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young and/or Jus Sargeant?
Logsdon and Young have worked on a number of lighthearted comic fantasy and sci-fi stories. I thought the Ononokin universe was innovative, interesting and funny. The differences between the upper and lower worlds intrigue me, as does the concept of wizards needing to come into contact with a very specific magical essence in order to cast spells.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I enjoyed the gradual reveal as to the precise nature and application of Treneth of Dahl's magical essence!
What does Jus Sargeant bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I would not consider myself likely to read a book in this genre in print version from the library. Having the story and characterisation performed skilfully by a narrator makes it a lot more fun and Jus Sargeant's work rendering the characters doesn't disappoint. His Gungren and the orcs are particularly amusing.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Perhaps.

Enjoyable
It's a bit of a slow story, with most the story being about conversation and people's thoughts. Some decent humor, one laugh out loud moment for me. I got the sense that this was inspired by Terry Pratchet's first discworld book, where you get a run through of the world and some mythos. Terry Pratchet was a bit better in that there were stakes and otherworldly aspects that made you think the world was broader than this one story. The otherworldly trying to come into the discworld for instance. Here it's a calm tail about a wizard against a bureaucrat. It's okay, but it didn't enthrall me. Enjoyable, I think sums it up.

I Are Happy With This Book
I was never a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sort of guy. I've never read the famous book series, and my library contains no other satirical titles of this sort. So I obtained a copy of this audio book with some mild trepidation - I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. In the end, I was happy with this book! So here's my thoughts:
While this book alone isn't full of substance, it hints at a larger universe known as Ononokin - one that is rich with details. Inside these pages, a wizard needs to go on a quest, the wizard goes on the quest, the wizard succeeds in the quest. It's not a long book, and the completion of the quest is almost anti-climactic. And since the book is shorter, the quest seems rushed.
However this book is a joy to listen to. The humor here is quite subtle. If you aren't familiar with some of the nuances mentioned it will go over your head, but there were quite a few that made me chuckle out loud. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Whizfiddle and Gungren (sorry, don't know the exact spelling). Whizfiddle's attempt to correct Gungren's speech pattern created some very entertaining and brilliant scenes, and I think were the highlight of the book.
Jus Sargeant's skill as a narrator is amazing. He has just become my favorite British voice, surpassing Jim Dale. The range of characters and voices he performed in this book were all unique and entertaining, especially the evil villain. I will forever recall with fondness Jus' pronunciation of the name "Rimpertoos" (again I don't know the spelling as it was audio only).
This audio book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

Lives Up To The Hype
I got this book based upon the reviews that it was comparable to Discworld. And it is. Similar humor performed very well by a gifted narrator. Dry wit. Laugh out loud humor. The plot was thin and predictable, so if you want a nail biter that has you guessing till the end...this is not it. But if you want a light read (listen) performed by one narrator who is able to convincingly voice a number of characters with many very funny moments of dry humor then this is as close to Pratchett as you will find. And that is a high compliment. Very well done. I am immediately starting the 2nd book in this series.

Terry Pratchett was, and always will be, Amazing! But I think these guys are definitely worthy successors!
Well, I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who loves the work of Sir Terry Pratchett, The master of satirical fantasy. Logsdon and Young haven't set out to copy the disk world series in any way. The only similarity really is that the setting is a fantasy world with its own rules and systems, and of course, a heavy dose of satire. But that's pretty much where the similarity ends. This new series of books brings to life a whole new cast of characters in a completely new and original way, and the narrator Jus Sargeant does a fantastic job in giving every character a very distinct and unique personality. The plot was clever, with some interesting twists and turns, and there were definitely many laughs along the way. The production value is incredibly high, no dogs barking in the background or birds singing outside the studio window. All-round a great audiobook for anybody looking for a laugh and a great fantasy listen! I would highly recommend it, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Great fun
Would you listen to A Quest of Undoing again? Why?
I would read it again. i listen to audiobooks in the car - I always find details can get missed meaning I never get bored re-listening.
What did you like best about this story?
Loved the characters. They were really diverse and fun.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
My favorite bit? The final chapters probably but I guess I shouldn't give details her in case they give too much away.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I used to sit in the car for a few minutes longer at the end of every journey as I didn't want to turn the book off yet.
Any additional comments?

thoroughly enjoyable, with some very silly pun play that had me laughing out loud. I've been looking for something similar to Discworld, and this might just fill the enormous gap left by Sir Terry's passing. I look forward to the rest of the seried

A surprisingly charming tale of magic.
This charming, whimsical, funny and slightly light-hearted tale is expertly narrated and written. Each character has their own clear voices, goals, and personality. It was a joy to listen to this from start to finish, it was well paced and you never quite knew what was going to happen next only that it was going to be both interesting and just a little odd. It will make you smile and may make you laugh.
The setting very much reminds me of the Discworld,I would be very interested in learning more about it and finding out what the characters get up to next in their lives.
I would happy listen to another book written by John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young. Judging by this book any book narrated by Jus Sargeant is going to be enhanced by it.
I would strongly recommend this book definitely well worth a listen.
