HMS Royston, Coastal Forces Depot Ship, is mother ship to a battered, war-worn bunch of MTBs and MGBs. New on board is Sub-Lieutenant Royce: commissioned for three months, sea experience three months in an Asdic trawler, and aged 20. His commanding officer is Lieutenant Harston, aged 23.

His predecessor has been killed in action 48 hours earlier and is now hardly remembered. The crew are all young - some very young - but all old before their time....

The first Reeman I've read, and I'm eager to read more. Fascinating look at the war in the small Motor Torpedo Boats in the early stages of WW2. Can't wait to get through the rest or Reeman's books -- his reputation is well deserved. #UnlikelyHero #ComingOfAge #Gritty #Violent #WorldWarII #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Big fan of the genre I’ve read so many of these books Once you can think of or name. Right there well done.

Narration and story. Characters well written

Narration: not always able understand narration...some mumbling and, more distracting, volume often dips dramatically at ends of sentences.

Story: potentially exciting battles between British torpedo boats and German e-boats marred by corny romance.

Torpedo boats plus romance
