"A Place Called There" is a captivating memoir that chronicles Gia's journey from adoption to a quest for identity, set against the backdrop of her remarkable life and the familial bonds that define it.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Houston by loving adoptive parents, Gia's life is filled with experiences that range from the ordinary to the extraordinary. From her early childhood memories to her adventures at Carnegie Mellon University, where she meets her future husband, Andy, the story navigates through her challenges, successes, and the pursuit of personal discovery.

The narrative takes a pivotal turn with the birth of Gia's daughters, prompting her to seek out her biological roots. This exploration is about tracing her lineage and understanding the genetic medical history that impacts her and her children's lives.

Gia's story is a testament to the power of perseverance, the importance of knowing one's origins, and the unbreakable ties of biological and chosen family. It's a heartfelt reflection on identity, motherhood, and the lengths we go to for the ones we love, making it a compelling listen for anyone who has ever pondered their place in the world.

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, I met you, Gia, in an airplane that I was not originally scheduled to be on. That day I was flying to Tucson, AZ by way of Harrisburg, PA, to DFW, to Tucson. But early that morning the first flight was canceled. The airline had rescheduled me, but it was not a good match for me, so I found my own new flights. After a quick flight from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, I was then on a plane headed to Phoenix. I had the honor of meeting the author, Gia James, who was sitting next to me. We started talking later in the flight and I learned about the book and Gia’s journey to find her birth mother and family. In Tucson, I was going to be staying with my friend who found her biological family and made connections a few years ago, having been adopted when she was a child.
I felt like we had an instant connection!
Then I learned that Gia’s mother has a twin sister who recently passed to her heavenly home. That aunt was very special and involved in Gia’s life. Oh wow! Another connection! I was on my way to Tucson for the Twinless Twins Support Group, Int. Conference, having lost my identical twin sister to cancer in 2008. I was meant to be on that plane with her and God had a reason for my plane changes!!! It changed my thoughts about that frustrating morning and plane changes. I loved this book and hearing Gia read it! I was meant to hear Gia’s story!!! Her strong faith and how she never gave up was something I needed to hear!!! Definitely worth reading and/ or listening to the audio book!!!

This book brought to light so many feelings behind adoption and I thought it was amazing how you kept your openness without any bad feelings… I always think at least they didn’t kill us but chose to carry us full term. So happy for your Happy beginnings… God bless you and your family!!!

The part that continues to come to mind is when Gia went to New Orleans to finally meet her family after years of searching and her siblings continue to say you look like mama. I could just feel that looking at Gia was surreal to them including Gia.

A place called there, is a 10/10 for me the writing the reading of the book by the author, i felt like I was there every step of the journey. Everyone adopted or not can learn something from this heartfelt story. Gia Thank you for sharing your story 💕💚
