This is not about two cities—Paris and London-- hundreds of years ago (read Charles Dickens). It is about two very different truths about American life today: one embraces and edifies self; the other turns to Scripture for the center of our lives. The questions raised in this little volume, and especially the answers offered, bring us face to face with perhaps the hardest question we all ask ourselves at one time or another: where do we turn to for answers to the problems, issues, and challenges of life we all face.

Share answers with the author to reconciling today’s modern age devoted to instant self-gratification with the timeless principles of Christian living. Virtually every section and chapter of the book is devoted to what Christians believe and how Scripture shows us the way, not simply to salvation but also to joy and personal fulfillment within the words, promises, and powers of God. Edify yourself as you edify our God. And even more important, who are we in the eyes and powers of Jesus?

The author taught the History of Christianity for over twenty years in the Department of History at the Univ. of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and other venues such as the Osher Life Long Institute (OLLI), Church classes, etc. and has written scores of articles and Op-eds for newspapers such as Los Angeles Times, The Tuscaloosa News, Miami Herald, etc. on many Christian themes which are incorporated and packaged in this book. Among his many honors, he was Knighted in the Order of Charles V, Segovia, Spain, 2015.

For over twenty years (2000 to now) he has preached and taught Christianity in the Tuscaloosa County Jail and learned to stick with the basics. This has helped him write the commentaries and Op eds over the years now packaged in this book. He has learned how much Jesus loves and cares for all of us, and how he is edified and lifted up when we use him as our example. “I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” (Matthew 25:36).
