The gripping psychological suspense of 2019....

Perfect for fans of Lullaby, Let Me Lie and The Cry.

You love your family. You’d never let anything happen to them...would you?

With three children under 10, Maddie is struggling. On the outside, she’s a happy young mother, running a charity as well as a household. But inside, she’s exhausted. She knows she’s lucky to have to have a support network around her. Not just her loving husband but her family and friends, too.

But is Maddie putting her trust in the right people? Because when tragedy strikes, she is certain someone has hurt her child - and everyone is a suspect, including Maddie herself....

The characters in this book are about to discover that looks can be deceiving...because anyone is capable of terrible things. Even the most innocent, even you.

Critic reviews

"Truly gripping: the opening is heart-breaking and it never lets up, all the way to a genuinely shocking denouement." (Alex Lake)

Riveting but not for the faint of heart

The ramifications of a legacy of abuse, narcissism and sociopathy come home to roost. I could feel the devastation and yearning throughout. Well-crafted in the intricacies of storytelling at its finest.

Intense book. Parents beware!

If you are a parent this book may be quit disturbing and hard to get through but the ending is worth it. I almost stopped listening twice but I had to finish it because my warped fascination with twisted thrillers won me over. Very intense and heart wrenching. Narrator was great and story was disturbingly believable. Was a little depressing and sad at the beginning but overall entertaining.

Just when you think you know someone...

Good characters with lots of twists & turns. Well plotted. And the reader did well with the various voices of the characters.
I’m prob nit-picking, but several times the tone of voice didn’t coincide with what the author wrote (one example: “...she said, bemused...” when the reader used a clearly accusatory voice.) But I will definitely read more by this author & listen to books by the reader.

Would be better with a different narrator

Even though I was able to guess who killed Noah, the psychological aspects of the situation and the difficult family dynamic makes some great discussion material. I enjoyed it, however I will say the audible narrator was super annoying in that I had to constantly turn the volume up and down. The whispers were so low I had to turn up the volume almost to the full extent and then she'd screech so loudly it hurt my ears and I had to turn the volume down by 10-20 notches, which turned me off quite a bit.

Important to know before you read (for some)

What I’m about to say is a minor spoiler - i say “minor” in that it happens very early on and is the main plot. But it’s not in the book descriptions or some reason. I feel it’s an important thing to know and I would not have purchased this book if I had known beforehand. I’m trying to decide now whether to finish it as I’m invested. Anyway read at your own risk
SPOILER

This is a book is about a baby who dies and the grief of a mother. If you feel this would be traumatic to read, please consider before purchasing. So far it is well written and performed and my rating is based only on what I’ve heard.

I hope this was helpful.

Horrible reader

The story is fine if not for the horrible fading in and out. There has got to be better volume control. When the reader wants you to know that the character is thinking she practically whispers and then the volume goes back to normal which is super loud. They can’t expect readers to keep controlling and adjusting the volume during the entire book. That really influence my enjoyment of this book.

The horror some kids endure

Children suffer every day at the hands of perverts. People we think have the best intentions, later to find they had the worst. You never know what goes on behind closed doors. All you can do is keep a watchful eye.
