Publisher's summary

FBI special agent Mercy Kilpatrick has been waiting her whole life for disaster to strike. A prepper since childhood, Mercy grew up living off the land — and off the grid — in rural Eagle’s Nest, Oregon. Until a shocking tragedy tore her family apart and forced her to leave home. Now a predator known as the cave man is targeting the survivalists in her hometown, murdering them in their homes, stealing huge numbers of weapons, and creating federal suspicion of a possible domestic terrorism event. But the crime scene details are eerily familiar to an unsolved mystery from Mercy’s past.

Sent by the FBI to assist local law enforcement, Mercy returns to Eagle’s Nest to face the family who shunned her while maintaining the facade of a law-abiding citizen. There, she meets police chief Truman Daly, whose uncle was the cave man’s latest victim. He sees the survivalist side of her that she desperately tries to hide, but if she lets him get close enough to learn her secret, she might not survive the fallout....

Good Mystery

I loved it. I especially like the insight into country preppers vs my knowledge of city preppers. I didn't know that even here in Oregon we have tight nit clans of people.

Gripping!

Couldn’t put this down. Merci is an intriguing, likable character and the plot line had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I’ll definitely continue the series.

Pleasantly surprised...

Enjoyed this book immensely. There were a couple of places that I wondered how the author would pull the story together and she did. The heroine was a realistic character unlike heroines in other books I’ve listened to. There often seems to be a need to make the heroine impossibly perfect. I don’t really wish to read about heroines or heroes who have to have supernatural abilities or backgrounds. Thank you Ms. Elliot for a realistic character in Mercy Kilpatrick.

The plot was interesting as were the characters. There were a few places where I felt things were a bit much, but overall I was well pleased. I’ve already started listening to the second in the series.

Another great start to an FBI thriller series!

FBI Agent Merci Kilpatrick is back in her small hometown in Central Oregon, an area that’s known for its ‘preppers’ communities. Someone is murdering the old preppers and taking their arsenal of guns. When Mercy discovers a connection between 15yo murders, will her secret be discovered? The secret that forced her to leave her family 15yrs ago? There is some underlying chemistry between Mercy and police chief Truman Daley. Looking forward to the next book to see if the relationship continues.

Good Solid Mystery

Mercy is an FBI agent who has to return to her hometown of Eagle's Nest to help solve a recent murder. She has not been back in 15 years. How will her family feel about her homecoming? Why did she leave in the first place? While the story doesn't have many twists, there are lots of secrets to unfold.

Very good read

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the rest of the series. I appreciate the cliff hanging romance between Mercy and Truman. It's very nice, not Luke most books. I'm so curious to see what happens now
