Publisher's summary

Having successfully helped listeners develop a solid prayer life with the best-selling release of A Praying Life, author Paul Miller applies his expertise to tackle an even more important issue - love. After all, love is what holds all things together, it’s what we’re looking for, it’s what we all need, and it’s what we must learn how to give. But loving people is hard. Our neighbors, friends, kids, spouses, and even our enemies require a relentless, self-giving demonstration of love that only God can produce within us.

Taking his cues from the perseverance and faithfulness portrayed in the book of Ruth, Miller sheds light on a biblical portrait of love that is sure to give us hope and transform our souls. Here is the help we need to embrace relationship, endure rejection, cultivate community, and reach out to even the most unlovable as we discover the power to live a loving life.

What love is

This book is outstanding. It takes a picture that most Christians have read the story of Ruth. It shows you or gives you a demonstration of what love is all about I love that decrease to increase the sacrifice of self for the love of someone else. True love will do that. It doesn’t take much but most people don’t understand what it is or what it looks like this was a clear demonstration of what true love looks like thank you for the most wonderful book

It changed my life

This is the second book by Paul Miller that God uses to bring significant revelation to my life (years ago it was "A Praying Life". The kind of revelation that causes deep repentance and real faith about an aspect of God and thus changes you for real,
I highly recommend this book.
Since it is about a love story and it's well written and so transformational is hard to put it down unless you want to escape from God.

Syncing chapters labeled with audio

The book is wonderful. Wish the audio chapters would sync with the labels so my notes would correspond with the right chapter.

deepening my definition of love.

the themes of the Book of Ruth are unpacked in a robust manner by Paul Miller. God's steadfast love is on display in the lives of these rich characters. This book has forever changed how I will read Ruth, and deepened my understanding of the selfless love of God that He calls us to reflect .

Life changing

As with A Praying Life, Paul Miller has written a book that draws you closer to God by his in depth look at the Book of Ruth. Sometimes you hear something and simply know in your core it is truth. This book is that. May I live it out.

A wonderful book.

I'm about to lead my second Sunday School class using this book. The first one was very well received. Most of us felt our attitudes about love were changed dramatically.

Better than I expected

I liked a Praying Life — but I loved a Loving Life.

Beautiful thoughts on how death is the center of all true love. Walking through the book of Ruth as an explicit pouring out of thoughtful, hardworking, selfless love. Not just blind, frivolous self sacrifice but a wise dedication to loving others deeply. It’s the love of others that forces a death to ego and a resurrected life.

Highly recommend.
