Story
In 1869, Gloriana Womack's family is much smaller since smallpox killed her mother and two of her siblings. She lives in a modest cottage in Duluth, Minnesota, with her father and young brother, and she has dedicated her life to holding her tiny, fractured family together - especially as her father is frequently gone on long fishing trips. Their livelihood may come from the waters of Lake Superior, but storms on the lake can be dangerous, even to those who know it well. Luke Carson has come to Duluth to help shepherd the arrival of the railroad to the city's port.

Very enjoyable!
What did you love best about A Love Woven True?
The writing is so descriptive that I found myself in another world and the characters are
so believable that I quickly related to them and their situations. Since I'm a history buff, I particularly enjoyed the political turmoil that was going on pre-civil war and how families of the North and South dealt with slaves and the Underground Railroad.
It was interesting to see how a Northern woman's love for her freed slaves and their child completely upset her Southern family.
Lots of historical information about this time period. Well written and interesting.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters - each so different in speech and mannerisms.
What does Linda Stephens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her readings enhanced the emotional feelings of the characters. Enjoyed the Southern conversations.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was saddened by the way slaves were treated, even the freed slaves, knowing how long it would be before they would have any rights.
Any additional comments?
Excellent book. Not preachy at all, but shows characters living in hard times depending on God for guidance and aid.

Story
The year is 1835, and Carolina Adams finds herself enchanted by an unlikely suitor: the railroad. Frustrated by society's expectations upon her gender, she longs to study more masculine subjects and is thrilled when her father grants her a tutor. James Baldwin arrives to serve as Carolina's teacher, but of more importance, he is to court Carolina's beautiful older sister, Virginia. Will expectations - and Virginia's Southern charm - elicit the hoped-for proposal? Or will James and Carolina dare to acknowledge the mutual interests and feelings growing between them?
