Publisher's summary

It’s easy to recognize another’s pain. The tough part is facing your own.

When Dorothy Thompson returns to Cherish, SC, to play piano for her brother’s wedding, memories and fear nearly paralyzes her fingers. If anyone she knew back in high school discovers her secret, the whispers will start. Fake. Fraud. Failure.

It’s not as if she can blame God for her troubles. No, she did that all by herself. But, remembering His lessons, she’s fighting to get back on track. All she can do is pray the wedding vocalist—her brother’s friend Ryan, a rising opera star—won’t notice the way her hands shake.

When Ryan Edwards sets foot inside a church for the first time in years, he’s no longer the pitiable kid from the poor side of town, but someone who’s made it on his own. Without God’s help—not that He ever cared about misfits like Ryan, anyway.

When he lays eyes on Dorothy—all grown up, more beautiful than ever, and clearly hiding something—he almost forgets why he left Cherish. Almost. But while his heart yearns to call the tune, he can’t forget his hard-earned career comes first…and his old friend’s little sister is off limits.

Note: Contains references to opiate addiction and recovery.

When the storm destroys everything, remember God has your name on something else.

Delightful!

Dorothy Thompson and Ryan Edwards were high school friends who always saw something special in each other. Even though they were from disparate backgrounds, they cherished their friendship until they both went their separate ways for music. Dorothy became a concert pianist, in high demand throughout the country and Ryan became an opera star with sold out shows all over the world. Now they're back to provide the music for Dorothy's brother's wedding and maybe reconnect after ten years apart. Dorothy is keeping a secret about how she became dependent on painkillers after carpal tunnel surgery and Ryan hasn't told anyone that he's hoping to move on with his career with the lead in a new production in Italy. When these two finally realize that they might have something real, do they listen to their hearts or to their heads. It's a beautifully written, clean, Christian romance with a delightful HEA.
The narration is wonderfully done by Anthea Hallett-Ybarra. Her clear, well-modulated voice brings each character to life with just the right amount of attitude and personality.

Sweet and Clean

This story is a sweet romance and entertaining audio book. Both Ryan and Dorothy are hesitant to reconnect after 10 years. But God has plans for the two of them. It is an interesting journey that ends with a happily ever after. I enjoy that this author can write a good book keeping it sweet and clean.

The narration is good but Dorothy's voice seemed a little too honey sweet. The narrator could make her performance better if the voices were a little more realistic and fitting to the characters.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I love happy endings

This was a quick listen. I love the music theme and the history between the main characters. I also like that I didn’t have to turn it off when my teen walked into the room.

Love conquers all

A wonderful short story of love. Not just the love of another, but the love that God has for each of His children and the love you find to give yourself grace.
The reader did an excellent job of giving this story an added element of life through her talents.

Introduction to Cherish, Ryan and Dorothy

Dorothy and Ryan had crushed in hs, but she was Miss Popularity and he was from the wrong end of town with a dad who killed himself and a crotchety Grandpa. They had music in common-him with a beautiful operatic voice and her with visions of being a concert pianist. He was on his way to get his dream but hers got derailed by carpal tunnel and then an addiction to pain meds. They were both back to perform at her brother’s wedding and the sparks were flying. This is about reconciling dreams to present realities and understanding dreams can change. It’s very Christian based, but it’s also about reaching potential and not listening to your own negative voices.

A sweet Christian romance

his is the audiobook is a clean, Christian, romance about two individuals whose lives have been changed by circumstances.
Dorothy Thompson’s pianist career changed when she developed carpal tunnel and got addicted to opioids. She returns home to recover as well as to perform in her brother’s wedding. Never expecting to come across the boy she loved in her youth, Ryan Edwards.
Ryan is now an opera singer, in town to sing at Dorothy’s brother wedding before going to Italy to audition for the roll of a lifetime.
But fate, God, and circumstances change their futures. Will Ryan find God again with Dorothy’s help? Will their attraction as teenagers become more as adults? Will Ryan leave town searching for fame and Dorothy stay home?
As with most novellas, the characters and the plot are not fully developed . That said, it did not take away from the story. Finding faith, second chances in life and love, and new beginnings.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Another good addition to this series!

I have enjoyed all of the Cherish Series by Josie Riviera (I listened out of order)... but that was still ok as they can be stand alone reads. This was a sweet and fun story of finally ending up with who you belonged with all along. It is seeing God and how He can work things out on your behalf even when you aren't seeing it. It is about finding your purpose and going for it... regardless of how foolish that may look to others. I recommend not only this book, but the series.

The narrator has done a good job with this and draws you into the story.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, however, I am voluntarily leaving this review.
