Publisher's summary

Tall and thin, twenty-eight-year-old Bronwyn Palmer has become positively gaunt, a ghost of her former self. That self was - and still is - the wife of a rich, handsome executive with an ocean-view house and his own security staff.

It was in that house, two years ago, that Bryce Palmer learned Bronwyn was pregnant with their first child. But Bryce’s rage over his impending fatherhood touched off a chain reaction of emotional and physical traumas that wounded them both. For Bronwyn, it meant fleeing the perfect marriage to start over with nothing but a precocious daughter named Kayla to care for. For Bryce, it meant a tortuous two years spent blaming his wife for deserting him, and living with the pain of not knowing his child. Now a chance encounter has brought Bronwyn back into Bryce’s life, both bearing scars...and neither knowing the whole truth of that fateful night that drove them apart.

Great sequal!

I really like these break up, but not.... books... I feel for the (h) characters... they are written so well. I really am becoming a Natasha Anders fan here... I loved the first book, totally love this one too. The hubby... boy what character development. I simply love who real these books are... like all the characters have flaws that make them a bit more realistic...then get a narrator like Eyre... Seriously...that gained this series an extra star!

Awesome..

Any additional comments?

I'm usually complaining about so much angst and misunderstandings in novels but not this time. There was a LOT of angst and misunderstandings in this book BUT it was the best angst and misunderstandings I've ever read. I loved everything about this book. Loved Bryce and Bronwyn, perfect couple. Loved Kayla and Rick and Lisa. This was a wonderful love story. I loved The Unwanted Wife but this one was even better.
As odd as it may seem I listened to this book as I read along and I know if everyone had done the same it would have gotten 4 and 5 stars across the board, and for $1.99 for the audible version you couldn't have gone wrong. I just hope the next book, His Unlikely Lover, comes out on audible at the same time the book is released.

As to the narrator: Ms. Eyre did a wonderful job. Every man, woman, and child sounded just like they were supposed to. Some of the women narrators don't even try to sound like men and I just hate for the hero's voice to sound just like the heroine's. Sure, a lot of time all the men's voices sound the same but at least they sound like men. I'm never disappointed in Ms. Eyre's narration.

What A Drama!!!!

I enjoy the story, felt sympathy for Bronwyn and understand her point of view not want to reconcile with her husband. The story teach us about forgiveness and trust, the most valuable commodities in marriage. Lovely story!!!

Good if you are having trouble sleeping.

Nothing ever really happened in this book. There was no plot. This was a lot of drawn out dribble about a jerk who treated a woman like crap and a woman who let him, over and over and over and over again. Snooze. I can never 'not' finish a book once I've started it, no matter how bad it is. Once I'm invested in a story I have to finish it. This is the only book I've ever started but just lost interest and couldn't finish. Life is tough enough that I don't need to live someone's misery hour after hour. There was no point to the story if you want to call it a story. No drama other than a spoiled rich boy having tantrums. I don't understand how this got the ratings it did. The first book in the series was pretty good. I was so disappointed by this one. I finally gave up and bought something else.

Read don't listen to this book

Would you try another book from Natasha Anders and/or Justine Eyre?

Yes to both but I'd make sure the narrator was narrating a book that her accent fits. Perhaps a regency book or something where it is obvious that someone is foreign.

I find it very wearing when the H and h continue to misunderstand each other for most of the book and act like young children.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm not sure.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I can't stand the way she says things like "heppy" aka "happy" and numerous other words. If I had expected an accent this strong because the person was foreign, I could like it better but it detracted for me.

What character would you cut from A Husband's Regret?

None

A Roller Coaster of Emotions But Worth It.

A husband's over the top reaction to an unwanted pregnancy ends up in years of misery and misunderstandings. Wished the heroine had a lot more backbone in certain parts of the story. She also cried a lot but a small detail compare to the rest of this amazing story. Ms Anders' characters are flawed, especially her heroes. I think Theresa, in the previous book, showed more strength of character than Brownyn. Another excellent story from Ms Anders.

As for the narrator, she is okay. Her accent is an issue but not a huge one. One can still understand most of what she says.

Always good

Natasha's books give me "the feelies." Her words have me sad, mad, then waiting with anticipation for a happy ending.

Prefer The Unwanted Wife

I'm not extremely familiar with a S. African accent, so can't speak to that. However, I thought the narrator did a good job of hopping back and forth between voices of men, women, children, etc. She rated higher than the story w/me, sadly.

I did not enjoy this novel as much as I did the first in the series. I did like it, but it lacked the elements that make The Unwanted Wife something I revisit from time to time. However, after thinking about it, I’ve concluded that in my case it’s more an issue of what you’re looking for/enjoy than the quality. Since the 2nd novel was published vs. independent, it was definitely superior in editing, etc. Some may argue it was the superior novel based on the strength of writing and plot, etc. I can see that point. However, when it comes to romance novels, I’m all about reading something to my personal taste and trying to set aside the nagging voices of my college English Lit professors.

A Husband’s Regret is loosely tied to the first novel. Definitely not a sequel as I think some parts are happening around the same time frame. If you read The Unwanted Wife, you may remember the heroine, Theresa, has a cousin, Lisa, who was married to a man named Rick Palmer. Rick is the younger brother of the hero in the 2nd novel, Bryce. Rick and Lisa appear in the 2nd novel quite a bit and Theresa has a few cameos since she is close to Lisa and often around when the current heroine, Bronwyn, and Lisa have ‘girl time’. There was even an anniversary party for Theresa and Sandro that Bronwyn and Bryce were to attend, but it was only mentioned and took place off screen. I would have liked to have seen them together again.

Anyway, what I liked about the first novel was the Harlequin Presents feel of it. A blackmailed Italian tycoon bridegroom who married the heroine to get back his ancestral land that was unfairly taken by the heroine’s eeeeevil father who would only sell the land if he married his daughter and gave him a grandson. The poor heroine who was caught in the middle and mistreated by the H until the truth of her innocence hit the fan. The hero, in a panic to keep the h from leaving him and realizing he'd taken her for granted, bullied and blackmailed her to stay. All VERY HP, to the point I’m surprised they didn’t pick Anders up to do the rest of the series.

This was a bit more realistic and due to the hero’s circumstance it was hard to put him in the wrong, wrong, wrong box even though he did act like a total ass in the beginning. I do applaud the author for taking a hero with a disability and not making it define him. He was still a believable and sexy alpha and definitely not an object of pity.

However, for me, the book was too long and after a very promising beginning, it dissolved into a book about a couple trying to rebuild their relationship with honesty, openness, and all that jazz that is usually not so belabored in a Harlequin - which typically focus on the drama and leave most of the healthy relationship building until the final chapter or just infer that the future will be like that. If, however, you aren’t looking for a pseudo-HP and prefer something that has some of those elements but is longer and places more emphasis on rebuilding a relationship in a healthy way and dealing with real childhood trauma and how that affects someone for the rest of their life (not just packing on the crazy with a trowel) you just may prefer this novel. For myself, give me some blackmail and a ruthless hero who thinks nothing of marooning the heroine on a private island and behaving like a jackass while humping like bunnies. Definitely a matter of taste.
