Publisher's summary

In 15th century Scotland, Gyllis Campbell arrives at the Beltane festival with one thing on her mind - to win the heart of Sir Sean MacDougall once and for all. Astonishingly, Sir Sean would like nothing more than to oblige the lovely lass. But when news of his father's death arrives, Sean races for Dunollie Castle. Unaware of Sean's tragedy, Gyllis departs the festival thwarted. Worse, a terrible illness strikes her down, and she's sent to the cloisters of Ardchattan Priory for healing.

Plagued by raids on his lands and deception in his ranks, Sean is embroiled in a battle to regain control. Worse, pulled in a myriad of directions, adversity runs rampant as Gyllis struggles to regain her health and Sean battles the very demon who covets his title. Fighting for their lives, both must face their demons before their love can blossom.

Oh my!

Another beautiful, exciting love story from Amy Jarecki but this one really pulled on my nerves and at my heartstrings. All was well in the end, though.

As usual, Dave Gilles nailed the narration. I truly feel as if there are multiple characters voicing their parts, not a single man doing them all, male AND female. And in that delicious Scottish brogue.

Now onward go I to hear about sister Helen!

Lusty and Exciting with Action and Danger!

Would you listen to A Highland Knight to Remember again? Why?

I would - to listen to Dave Gillies again and to experience the raw passion and the excitement of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I can't mention just one thing! I loved Dave Gillies' narration. His Scottish brogue was perfect! I loved that the couple's love would not be denied. They were both loyal and strong-willed and they never gave up on their dreams - despite tremendous odds against them. I loved the humorous moments. I loved the raw passion. AND I loved that the author's love of the Highlands was evident through-out the tale.

Which scene was your favorite?

I had so many favorite scenes! One of my very favorites, though, was when Gyllis seduced Sean. Here's a short snippet from that scene: “I-I've wanted you ever since..." She untied the sash around her waist and let the dressing gown drop to the floor.
God save him, she wore not a stitch of clothing. Every shred of self-control fled. His mind consumed with the tantalizing woman before him. Somehow she was even more beautiful now that he'd remembered. The candlelight flickered amber across her skin. Chestnut tresses slid over her shoulder, framing two perfectly formed breasts, tipped by rose.
Sean licked his lips, those delectable rosebuds would be his second stop. In two strides, he wrapped her in his arms and crushed his body against hers. "For all that is holy, you have claimed my soul, my flesh and my mind.”

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I absolutely love Amy's books. She is one of my must-read authors. Her stories are always lusty and exciting with plenty of action and danger and imbued with humor. Her love for the Highlands is obvious in her storytelling. If you read her Author's Notes at the end of this book, you'll discover that much of this story is based upon real-life characters and events that she has embellished for our reading pleasure.

Any additional comments?

This is the first book by Amy that I've listened to, instead of read. It's also the first time I've listened to Dave Gillies. Listening to the audio narrated by Dave Gillies most definitely added another layer of pure enjoyment to the story. He delivered a clear, solid performance with a Scottish brogue that was absolutely perfect for this tale. He differentiated between the characters so I always knew who was speaking and his pauses and inflections were spot on. To say that I was mesmerized by his performance is an understatement. I would not hesitate to pick up another book voiced by Mr. Gillies.

wow

WOW! What a story! I think this is my fave from this amazing series. Gyllis is such a strong woman, determined and going after what she wants. And Sean is such a great character, a warrior to the bone, a bit of a rogue, loyal and fearless. Their journey to HEA is such a hard one, but all ends well, they will be together.
Told by Mr. Gillies, the story comes to life with passion and I not only heard, but felt the emotions of the characters. Singing the farewell song at Sean's Father's funeral is breathtaking, I cried.
Thank you Ms. Jarecki for another wonderful story and Mr. Gillies for giving it life.

Just Plain Heady Stuff!

Any additional comments?

When everything goes fairly swimmingly at the beginning of a story, you know it will never stay that way. Both Gyllis and Sir Sean fight their own demons and love’s happiness is cast aside.

I loved the way Gyllis fought her illness. What could be worse than total paralysis? However, with her sheer will and gusty temper, she begins to heal.

Sir Sean is dealing with keeping his clan together for after his father’s death (Laird of Dunoillie) many men who felt they had been wronged by his father made trouble for him, trying to weaken his leadership. We see that Sir Sean is a strong man, but tends to give men second chances or the benefit of the doubt. In this story, he should have listened to his first gut feeling and gone with it.

The intensity of the love and connect that eventually blossoms between Gyllis and Sir Sean eventually saves his life. Gyllis is a lass I would gladly count as a friend for she is very loyal and giving, qualities every heroine should have.

Amy Jarecki’s stories are always full of excitement, wondrous heroes or heroines with passionate natures. This story has plenty of humorous remarks and scenes which remain in my mind. I particularly likes the time that Gyllis spends in the Abbey being taken care of by the monks.
Duncan Campbell, Lord of Glenorchy, brother to Gyllis took his responsibilities seriously where his sisters were concerned. He remembered how he and Sean MacDougall were very much the rake when younger. This put a lot of tension between the good friends and very nearly lost Gyllis the boy she had loved since she was seven.

Other characters sure to have a story of their own is Helen, Gyllis’s younger sister. She was married to a husband who didn’t offer her love. The tie between Gyllis and Helen was very strong, one that every sister should have.

When I read the Author’s Note I was pleasantly surprised to see many of these main characters were indeed part of history. Ms. Jarecki’s talent for storytelling and love of the highlands shines forth in her writing. Her stories are easy to follow, however with plenty of subplots and characters to prod the reader to read, trying to figure out what will happen to blow all happiness to smithereens and open-mouthed when it does.

I highly recommend this lovely Scottish love story, the kind of love that will endure forever. As the author put it, “a love with a fire so passionate the torch he carried could never be snuffed.” That’s heady stuff!
