A lot had changed in "The Holy Sky" School during the six weeks that Hadjar Darkhan was away. Everyone who was in the capital at the time became much stronger, thanks to the regular skirmishes along the Imperial road. By the emperor's decree, all the disciples of the Imperial martial arts schools were allowed to visit the infamous and highly coveted Wastelands. "The Holy Sky's" disciples were especially fortunate - they'd been given a two-week head start to find the map leading to Emperor Decater's tomb, as well as the key that would allow them to enter his chambers.

Considered one of China's great classical novels, Wu Ch'êng-ên's Journey to the West was translated by Arthur Waley in abridged form as Monkey in 1942 and has delighted English readers ever since. It is a riveting adventure story about a priest's quest to obtain holy Buddhist scriptures for the Tang emperor; joining him on this rollicking journey: Sandy, Pigsy, and the mischievous monkey king, Sun Wukong, whose flying cloud and magic cudgel are never far from his infamous deeds.

Publisher's Summary
The epic Chinese classic and phenomenon published in the US for the first time!
Featured in iO9's 2019 Fall Preview.
A fantastical generational saga and kung fu epic, A Hero Born is the classic novel of its time, stretching from the Song Empire (China AD 1200) to the appearance of a warlord whose name will endure for eternity: Genghis Khan. Filled with an extraordinary cast of characters, A Hero Born is a tale of fantasy and wonder, love and passion, treachery and war, betrayal and brotherhood.
And then a hero is born....
After his father, a Song patriot, was murdered, Guo Jing and his mother fled to the plains and joined Genghis Khan and his people. Loyal, humble, and driven, he learned all he could from the warlord and his army in hopes of one day joining them in their cause. But what Guo Jing doesn’t know is that he’s destined to battle an opponent that will challenge him in every way imaginable and with a connection to his past that no one envisioned.
With the help and guidance of his shifus, the Seven Heroes of the South, Guo Jing returns to China to face his foe and carry out his destiny. But in a land divided by treachery and war, betrayal and ambition, he’ll have to put his courage and knowledge to the test to survive.
"Actor/filmmaker Daniel York Loh draws from his British/East Asian background to bring a unique cross-cultural graphic novel voice and energy in this Chinese version of a super hero saga." (BookTrib)

Very good
I saw reviews about people not liking the female narrator before I got this. The actual story is narrated by Daniel York Loh and he is very good and just the intro by Carolyn Oldershaw. The book was really good, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but I’m on to book 2 right away.

Well-translated and well-read
I'm so glad Jin Yong's works are now starting to be available in English translation and on Audible! The translation reads very well, and the narrator is excellent. It's doubly great that they selected a narrator who could pronounce the Chinese names correctly.

Never too late to find GREATNESS
I have a pretty knowledgeable circle of friends who are interested in the same genres as me. So it was astonishing when I stumbled upon this at a local bookstore that I had never heard of this series, let alone this author. It’s never too late to discover GREATNESS. Finally!
Finally, an English translation of the series. I’ve watched mandarin YouTube series with subtitles. But nothing compares to reading. I love how Genghis Khan is tied into the story and how the whole plot flows just like a graceful display of “lightness Kung fu”.
And I cannot wait for the next book.

Fantastic!
Great narration. Brilliant! I can’t wait for the next one to come to audible. The ending was great and not at all how I was expecting it to end. I let out an exhale as soon as the appendix started. Originally published in 1957, I wish this would have been translated to English way earlier so it would have influence our literature way sooner! Can’t recommend enough for anyone who loves martial arts and good writing!

It's staggering that such a well read and respected series hadn't been translated into audio until now. Fun, exciting and well paced. It's the best of Robert E. Howard without the racism, and way more. Highly recommended.
