Publisher's Summary

Book one in The Jack Reacher Cases.

Former FBI Agent Lauren Pauling met Jack Reacher in The Hard Way, the 10th Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. Now, in A Hard Man to Forget, Pauling is a private investigator in New York and receives a mysterious letter with Jack Reacher's name, along with a phone number. Pauling calls the number and reaches a woman whose husband has gone missing. Even stranger, the woman claims she didn't contact Pauling and has no idea who Jack Reacher is.

Intrigued, Pauling begins to investigate, and when the woman becomes the target of the same men who may have abducted her husband, Pauling recruits Michael Tallon, a former special ops soldier. Pauling and Tallon quickly realize they're dealing with much more than a missing persons case, and soon they're in a deadly race to stop a terrifying act of mass murder.

Where was Jack Reacher?

I kept waiting for Jack but he was a total no show. The worst audio book I have and waste of my time. The editing was very noticeable and annoying. Lee, what were you thinking letting Dan get near your work?

Disappointing Performance

I was excited to order this book, written "in the Jack Reacher style." I can't get enough Reacher stories. The story is good so far, but whether I'll finish it remains to be seen. The narration leaves a lot to be desired. It sounds like they dubbed in portions at various places, but it's very poorly done. Instead of a smooth transition, suddenly a different voice is speaking, and it throws one off. I keep being jarred by the new voice.... who is it? Was a second narrator added for emphasis? Is this another character? IT WOULD BE AS IF I SUDDENLY WROTE ALL IN CAPS. You'd wonder why, right? Ultimately I did decide it's just a poor dubbing job. It's quite annoying, enough that I'm not sure I'll bother with the rest of the book. (I'm halfway through.) So disappointed.
