Publisher's Summary

In the Royal States of America, magic rules all, but life - and love - always finds a way.

Once upon a time, Adam had been betrothed to North Dakota's heir, and she'd been his everything, his reason for living. Failing to develop his parents' talents, he's stripped of his rank and shipped to a remote corner of the kingdom to live out the rest of his life as a shamed outcast.

Defying the realities of his new caste and hiding his love for the one woman he can't have, Adam turns to the stock markets, ghosting through the financial world in search of purpose. Trouble comes calling when his beloved's little brother shows up on his doorstep.

Adam's first mistake is inviting in the royal runaway. His second is listening to the child's plight, learning of New York's plan to crash North Dakota's stock market and incite rebellion.

Unless Adam does something to stop the rival kingdom, his former betrothed will become the property of another man. Unwilling to see her reduced to a trophy bride and unable to let her go without a fight, Adam pits his love and fortunes against the influence and power of kings.

Should Adam falter, North Dakota will lose more than a princess: It will fall to civil war.

Contains mature themes.

Just too much about money matters instead of storyline

This book felt more like a lecture on fictitious state laws and how to understand the stock market than an actual storyline. Relationship between the main characters felt forced.

The relationship between the hero and his doctor or the little brother was more connected then Adam and Veronica’s relationship

Book was just boring with no real romance to root for ....

Something to think about

When I read the previous books, I was curious about the marriage contract she mentioned for children. In this book she puts focus on this, something that’s a big problem in America today. I really loved this book and the subject it puts focus on.

Very slow moving at times; second half much better

If I hadn't listened to the previous books of the series, I doubt that I'd have stuck this one through to the end. It started out ok and quickly became hard to listen to. For a decent chunk of the book I felt as if I were listening to a historical text vs a creative, exciting fiction. As the book went on, it returned to light hearted quips between characters and the story line became a story again unlike the gap that was full of recited facts.

I feel much of the information pirtrayed during the fact reciting was necessary, but had it been done through a better character exchange, it woyld have been much easier to grasp and not get sidetracked from. The second half of the book was a much more enjoyable and entertaining listen.

cute

This book lets us see our favorite horse runs a muck as well as a cute if heat wrenching story about what happens if a bonded pair is separated. As usual the the characters are well fleshed out and by necessity there is significant talk about stock markets as it largely what the plot revolves around but its not overwhelming.

Guiding

This is my favorite book so far. Narrator was ok, a little confusing at times as her male voices need a bit of work.
