Publisher's summary

In a world embroiled in wars for freedom, liberty, and vengeance, Nil finds himself imprisoned within his own soul. Haunted by the shrouds of a godless past, he yearns for more than mere survival; he seeks a purpose for his demonic existence.

King swears to her ways; the ancient feud with the neglectful deities will not go unfinished. Her insatiable wrath, greed, and boundless pride threaten to call down the sky.

With their destinies intertwined by a thousand years of judgment, Nil must muster his will and determination to survive the cataclysmic consequences that follow and unearth the true meaning of the power he wields or forge one from the chaos.

As the past and gods collide, Nil must confront the ultimate question: What do you fight for?

Fever dream

This series is like a fever dream on acid based on memories, I very much enjoyed this series.

A good follow up to the first book.

a good continuation from the first book. i cant wait for the 3rd installment in this series. my only complaint is how much time king spends possessing Nill in the beginning of the book. It gets a bit confusing until they split.

not bad, but not the direction I was interested in.

I can't say the book was written poorly, or has bad characters, or anything like that. honestly it feels like the original premise for the first book was tossed to the wayside. At times it feels like King is the actual main character of the story and we are just witnessing her story from side characters perspectives, and for me, I was drawn to the raize part of the first book, it felt more personal and grounded.
the more I listened to this book the more I wish king was never an actual character and died when Nil was banished.
while I don't think this book is bad, I don't think I'll be continuing the series as it is no longer focused on the premise of the original book; that is the story I wish to read

Unique Perspective

Fairly lite on the leveling and stats, but generally enjoyable. I’m looking forward to future titles in the series.

not like it's predecessor

I really enjoyed the first book but I feel like the author took the story in a different direction than I expected or like.

Okay?

Point of view change combined with timeline jumps are just annoying.

Spoiler

For some reason the "Hero" Lets his nemesis get away, and doesn't follow her to take her out when she's weak because "I don't want anything to do with her anymore". Even knowing her ultimate plans..
