Publisher's summary

Halloween Night, 1954. A young, film-obsessed scriptwriter has just been hired at one of the great studios. An anonymous investigation leads from the giant Maximus Films backlot to an eerie graveyard separated from the studio by a single wall.

Wowsa

What a novel novel! This is a funhouse of a book! The action takes place mostly within the expansive make-believe world of film sets in Hollywood. The narrator is Bradbury describing or fictionalizing (who knows how much) his experiences as a screenwriter. Add a bizarre murder mystery and a zany cast of characters (that you actually come to care about), all shot through a distorted lens with interesting special effects. Loved it!

Brilliant!!!

Bradbury at his best! Every word weighed to fall into the flow <3 an excellent audiobook - a grand adventure into a Hollywood studio from yesteryear - what a treat after having read this book in high school! Wow!!!! Such a grand and layered epic set in the subterranean cemetery next door. Wow, just wow.

A murder mystery fever dream

I’m not sure how to feel about this book yet. I need to think on it for a while. It was such a strange story. Like watching a murder mystery while while running a 104 temperature.
