Publisher's summary

The world named Mount Lookitthat was never meant for humans - it was shrouded in lethal mists. Life existed only on one plateau, unreachable except from space. But the disastrous decision to colonize the planet could not be reversed. So the settlers survived somehow - under a ruthless dictatorship. Mount Lookitthat was rebellion-proof. Then fate dealt the colonists a wild card named Matthew Keller, who had a talent that neither he nor anybody else knew about. At last the colonists had a glimmer of hope!

Human story in sci-fi setting

I always enjoyed this one, good pace and realistic characters. Not to weighty and fires the imagination. Story always stuck with me from childhood.

Love the old sci fi

Strong, daring woman, and brave, flawed men. That's how the old guys used to write sci fi, because they actually understood human nature and, in their way, truly revered women
Wow....what the sjw's have been telling us is a lie. Who is surprised?

A little dated

The story seemed a bit dated till you remember it was written in 1968. Amazing!

Old time sci-fi that satisfies

Always enjoyed Larry Niven’s brand of space tales and this did not disappoint. Give it a try.

entertaining concepts

Have reviewed many works, but never really commented much. This one was entertaining at best. "lookatthat" mountain and "we made it" ? come on, let's at least try to put our mind in the character of a space traveler when writing a space novel. like I said, entertaining at best.

A Known Space Classic

Another piece of the Known Space saga. Read these as a kid but out of order. When read in sequence, these stories are really good.

no Jerry to save him.

larry without Jerry sucks. Larry just kinda babbles away. The author was at his best when he had someone to reign him in.

Old Work of Larry Niven

Larry Niven is a master of hard SF. Love all his stories! Ringworld is my favorite.

Quality scifi as usual from Niven!

Story was great and the narrator really nailed the character voices, you could really easily tell who was speaking just from the accents.
