In A Foolish Voyage, Neil Hawkesford gives us a remarkable tale not just about sailing but about life. Good times and bad. Here we learn what happens at the very limits of physical, emotional, and mental endurance. Here we also learn how personal tragedy can lead to a life-changing discovery, the realization that hidden deep inside all of us is the perseverance and passion needed for achieving life's greatest goals.

Pathway to an authentic life

Ever wonder if there is more to life? Great story to make you think about your own journey. This book challenges me to expect more from my future and to take the leap of faith to trust my dreams and instincts. Really enjoyed this book.

Exciting, philosophical and moving.

This is a relatively short book, but none the worse for that, packed as it is with moments of hope, excitement, pathos, tear wrenching sadness and ultimately deliverance. Whatever stage of our journeys we are on in our love of the sea, there is something all of us will recognize in here, even inexperienced sailors like myself who spend more time on land dreaming than on the water living. For us dreamers, this book really hits the spot.

Great Narration and Adventure

I loved listening to this adventurous brit. I'm putting move to England to putter about on a small boat on my bucket list, and found myself pulling up many a google map image or satellite to really capture the place.

Is there a better community than that of the sailing world? Perhaps only that of the 1970s, but I suspect this could be done today by an adventurous soul. Best of luck to you Neil.

Honest Basics

This is an honest story of endeavor, youth, error, adventure, disappointment, strength, mental challenges and a little foolishness that can remind of of the importance of preparing our boats and ourselves slowly and gradually. Thanks and best wishes.

Great story with beautiful message at the end.

too bad most people seem to never have enough or learn to be happy. Neil seems to have figured out at the end of book.

Not bad

Not a bad story at all. I’ve met people in life who remind me of the author and it is eye opening to be in the sea alone and understand the true power of bad weather. All is well that ends well. I hope he keeps writing.

Perfect audiobook for sailors

The narration was spot on and the story itself wonderful! Even better is that it’s not too long a book so can be enjoyed in a week or so without losing interest at all! Two thumbs up!
