Widower Charles Atkins heart, is scarred by the passing of his beloved wife, and now his life revolves solely around his young daughter, Helen. Hoping for a new start before Christmas, and a mother for Helen, he makes the decision to place an advertisement for a bride.

Leslie Harridge, unwilling to be a burden to her newly married sister, dreams of finding her own husband. When she reads Charles' advertisement, she is drawn to him through his heartfelt letters. Yet, upon arriving at the Atkins homestead, she finds Charles trapped in guilt and grief, a mere shadow of the man she hoped to find.
