Publisher's summary

While searching for a missing man, Zack Taylor stumbles across another body. Though it looks like a suicide, Zack doesn't buy it, and he tampers with the crime scene to keep the police on the case. They do so, but are suspicious of Zack's involvement.

More than his freedom is at stake when pieces of the dead man's activities become known, and the danger mounts for Zack and the woman who hired him.

A Darkened Room

I just came into this series on book 6.I felt like I was missing something the whole way through. It was a good enough book, just not all there. Chris Koprowski was a fine narrator. His voices differentiating characters were a nice touch.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

How have I missed this series!

This is the sixth book in a series and I have really missed out. If the first five books were like this one, I should still be kicking myself.

Zack Taylor is an awesome character. He's got a dubious past and the local police are not too fond of him. He does have a knack for solving crimes though.

This mystery was quite good. A client's Dad is found dead and Zack is on the case. Throw in some Russians and a conspiracy and you've got a party.

The narration was well-done as well.

The Russians spoilt it for me.

Firstly, the book was short (4,5 hours and I listen at 2x so it was even shorter). The narrator Chris Koprowski did a good job but he can’t do Russian accents.

Since the book was short, I felt that a lot was rushed. For example, in one “paragraph” they are traveling in a truck, get T-boned into the river, get rescued out of the river and are in hospital. In the first scene he finds the body in a house near a lake, grabs the shotgun , rows out into the lake and dumps the gun into the lake - all about as quickly as I wrote.

I didn’t buy the Russian angle but that may just be me. Other than that, the book was good, the characters believable and the story enjoyable.

I received a free copy of this book and chose to write a review.
