Publisher's Summary

Adair Radcliffe is only a child when her family perishes in the War of the Roses, so her real father, the womanizing King Edward IV, takes her in, honoring his promise to her mother. Once Adair turns 16, the king marries her off without her knowledge - and to her later outrage - in a wedding by proxy. But when tragedy leaves her a widow twice over, Adair realizes that her already tenuous social position has sunk even lower. Now, all she can do is hope that the Scottish laird to whom she is sold will have mercy on her. But little does master or servant suspect that love knows no rank.

Contains mature themes.

Incredible story!

Incredible story! There’s nothing more enjoyable than good writing. I stumbled on this writer quite by accident, Small is a incredible storyteller. Good plot and characters you want to be or be in love with.

Adair and Connell

Absolutely loved this book so much! I wish Justine Eyre could narrate all of Bertrice Small’s books!
Adair is a strong young lady and beautiful. She has gone through so much pain and love. Such a strong storyline. She has endured so much suffering and also happiness. This is a wonderful book with historical points and amazing attention to details. I’m so in love with this book. I read the book and I am so happy to have been able to listen 🎧 to it!
I hope “Love Wild and Fair” would be on Audible with Justine Eyre as narrator.

Good story

This is probably my favorite of the border ladies series. The overall story is good, but her history is flawed. Richard of Gloucester was a tyrant who did away with his nephews to seize power. His hatred of the Woodvilles was his driving force. Her glorification of him is, well, misguided. That being said, I love Adair. Ballsy, brave, smart lady. Overall, a good romance that takes artistic licence with the history.

no plot

this was a boring one... because there was no growth for a continuously perfect main character, there was no discernible plot, sometimes read like they just opened a wiki page on the time, and characters were just dull... which made the very graphic sex just seem out of place and meaningless.

Never again

I can’t believe I made it through the book! The historical details were presented in a convoluted manner and hard to follow at times. That was not the worst part. Adair the main character said things that were so unrealistic my eyes were sore from rolling. I actually skipped a couple chapters towards the end just to finish it. The narrator does a good job with English accent because she is English but her Scottish was not distinguished from English but that wasn’t too annoying. I love a strong woman but this one was just arrogant. The main love of her life wasn’t convincing either. He was weak and feeble minded it seemed. Some scenes were hinged on erotica maybe as I don’t like that stuff it wasn’t romantic to me at all.
