Publisher's Summary

The new Sunday Times best-selling novel in the Temperance Brennan series.

A Richard and Judy Book Club pick.

Every body has secrets....

It all starts with a series of text messages. Each message contains a new picture of a corpse, missing its face and hands. Dr Temperance Brennan needs to find out who the dead man is and why the images were sent to her. The only problem is, she has been kicked off the team.

So she goes rogue, knowing that she is the only one who can solve this case. As she starts her investigation she discovers a connection to a decade-old missing child case. The more she uncovers, the darker and more twisted the picture becomes....

One of the best!

Kathy surpassed herself with this book! Adding a part of herself (the aneurism and its effects) really inserted an edge to the text that has been missing a little from the latter few books.

Those books were still great stories and, as usual, contained well researched and intricate plots yet ‘A Conspiracy of Bones’ (for me) drew me in completely.

Maybe the ‘dark web’ holds my interest more than the military and sectarian topics.

Thank you, Kathy, for all your’Tempe’ books - almost all of them have caused me to have later nights than planned!!

Engaging and entertaining

Typical of Kathy Reichs, this latest instalment does not disappoint. The narration was good. My only gripe was that the book seems sponsored by Apple! So many references to Apple's products it felt like an advert at times. It does nothing to advance the plot - iPad could be replaced with tablet, iPhone with Phone and MacBook Air with laptop.. i know it's petty but it really grated on me!

Not like before

Not enough of the forensic side of the story, just like any old crime novel

Disappointing

This just didn’t work for me. I’ve really enjoyed the Brennan series but not this latest addition. I felt the plot was contrived, the steps which led to the solving of the crime were unbelievably far fetched and the characterisation was laboured. The bad guys (particularly the evil ME) were 2d caricatures. I also thought that Tempe’s reaction to the conflagration at her house was unrealistic and her continued doubts about her relationship with Ryan are beginning to wear thin. I hope this is just a temporary loss of form from a writer whose previous works have been of a very high calibre.

I missed the forensic anthropology

I've read or listened to all the Temperance Brennen books. Linda Emond is the voice of Tempe for me now. A large appeal of the series for me is the forensic anthropology. This barely gets a look in this time. It's more about forensic internet investigation and fake news. I still enjoyed listening to Kathy Reichs' first person, lively writing style, although she uses more than her share of questions, which can become irritating and repetitive.
The postscript on the ideas that lead to the book was an interesting addition.
For readers new to KR, I suggest you start much earlier in the series - the beginning?

Struggled to finish this

I felt there was a lot of repetition in this book, the story was very padded out. I didn't enjoy it and that was a big disappointment to me as a long time fan. it's well read but what's being read is not great. sorry.

A Conspiracy of Bones

Yet another installment of Dr Brennan doing exceedingly stupid things even though she is allegedly an intelligent person who understands how the legal system works. This story is full of plot holes and the ending in particular is completely implausible. The book could have easily been edited down to half the length by avoiding the ridiculous amount of repetition and foreshadowing.
If you’re after another cookie cutter Temperance Brennan novel that follows Kathy Reichs’ tried and true formula then have at it. If you’re looking for something more engaging then don’t waste your time.

Temperance Brennan wants to speak to the manager

This is the last Kathy Reichs book ill ever pay money for. In this book Temperance Brennan manages to both fat shame and judge poor people while channelling her inner "I'm Karen and I want to speak to the manager". I managed to persevere until chapter 18, then I had to stop... the first 18 chapters were insufferable.

My 19th Bones book my first audio listen

My 19th Bones book my first audio listen from this Author.

I enjoy the medium as I’ve been too busy to put my hands on a paper book.

In the past I have enjoyed the books by Kathy Reichs. Not sure but this time I thought it was a few chapters too many.

I’ve put that down to me, I still enjoyed the story and I do enjoy this medium of having the book read to me.
