Publisher's Summary

The joyful tranquility of a snowbound estate in the Lake District of England is overturned in a moment by a shocking murder. Renowned mathematician and inventor Henry Rathbone - long known to listeners of Perry's best-selling Victorian series featuring William Monk - must put his analytical and creative capacities to the test as he assumes the role of an amateur investigator.

In this delightful Christmas tale, he rescues the holiday with a grace that would impress William Monk himself.

Very Enjoyable

Love the "Christmas" series...the narrator, Terrence Hardiman, is excellent...he describes the scenery, food and elements in such a way you feel like you're there...you can feel the wind, the rain....and almost taste the food he talks about....I have two more to purchase from this series...only wish there were more....Very enjoyable...

a fantastic narrator can't make it any good

This is a classic case of a sow's ear and the performance isn't good enough to turn it into a silk purse. A generally rotten and depressing tale, with a lot of moralizing and no good ending

just okay

Hardiman as narrator is very good, but Perry's Christmas novellas are disappointing. Repetitive and awkward. Listen if they're free.

The Treasure of a Good Name

The accidental death of Judge Judah Dreghorn late one December evening following an enjoyable evening with his family, when he decided to take a walk out on his property, falling to his death, is a story of the value of living a truthful and good life. What it means to have integrity, to admit you are human and to make amends for mistakes. The brothers of Judge Dreghorn come home to learn of his death and be faced with another issue, someone who is sullying their brother's name. Sure that person was responsible for their brother's death, and that it was not an accident, the brother's sought to prove he was murdered. Family friend, Henry Rathbone, ever the level-headed man, looked deeper into the history of the man who was accusing Judge Dreghorn of wrong doing. So many times, things are not what they appear from the outside. This is a beautiful little tale of love, friendship and sacrifice. Of righting wrongs. Of making hard choices. And ultimately remembering what and where true treasure lies.

Bittersweet

This was a lovely Christmas story that involved pain, loss and honorable actions. I was surprised by the story, but I should not have been as this author has a way of always going to a deeper level in all of her stories. The narrator was excellent.
