Publisher's Summary

After a whirlwind courtship and marriage, Beth finds herself in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she quickly discovers that her Los Angeles attire is not adequate for the weather. She must learn a new vocabulary, purchase a new wardrobe, and fine-tune her survival skills. Can she make the adjustment from city girl to a "Cheechako" (new comer) living in the outskirts of Fairbanks?

In Ethel McMilin's A Cheechako's View of Alaska, she details Beth's struggles and the rewards of living in Alaska, where moose and bears roam freely, and the weather can dip to 50 below. Beth doesn't always follow her husband's advice and often learns her lessons the hard way.

Disappointing

As lovers of Alaska stories, we had hoped to be entertained by this book. Unfortunately, it is poorly written and a thinly veiled missionary tract. It was very disappointing.
