Publisher's Summary

When twenty-five-year-old Lyn sets off on her cruise vacation, all she wants is to forget that her dead fiance was a cheating scumbag. What she plans is a diversion uncomplicated by romance. What she gets is Braedon, an intriguing young surgeon. He's everything her fiance wasn't, and against the backdrop of the ship's make-believe world, her emotions come alive.

Unaware of the sensitive waters he navigates, Braedon moves to take their relationship beyond friendship - on the very anniversary Lyn came on the cruise to forget. Lyn's painful memories are too powerful, and she runs off in a panic.

But it's hard to get away from someone when you're stuck on the same ship. Things are bad enough when the pair finds themselves on one of the cruise's snorkeling excursions. Then paradise turns to piracy when their party is kidnapped, and Lyn's fear of a fairy tale turns grim.

Exciting Clean Romantic Adventure

What made the experience of listening to A Change of Plans the most enjoyable?

The narrator did a great job of distinguishing characters with her voice changes.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed in a couple of spots and cried in others.

Any additional comments?

I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job, and it was easy to tell who was speaking. At first, this felt like a sweet romance, which I don’t really like, but it soon turned to a much more exciting read. There were a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t expect, and I loved the happily-ever-after ending. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Something different for me

Well, I liked the story. Performance, not as much. The main character was voiced way too slow, in my opinion. It still did the job and I'll get the next book. However, that minor complaint aside, the story was really adventurous. Not contrived at any point. I'm also happy the main character wasn't some helpless woman, a damsel in distress kind of thing. Give me a strong lead to lead my ears along. A couple twists I didn't see coming kept me listening.

The character development was strong and natural. Easy to listen to in one sitting, if you have the time. ON to the next!

Not your average romance.

This story starts out with a budding romance between Lyn and Braeden as they get to know each other on a cruise. Unaware of Lyn's emotional scars, Braeden pushes the relationship a little too fast and Lyn pulls away, sure she is better off alone--until pirates enter the picture and kidnap them all!

Imagine high stakes with pirates, storms, shipwrecks, tropical islands, monsoons, sharks, and a blizzard at a Montana ranch.

I'd say more, but it would wreck it for you. It made me smile and cry, and the ending was worth waiting for.

Well done.

Fantastic!!!

This book exceeded my expectations in every way. It left me with a horrible book hangover each time I had to turn it off and return to real life. Action, adventure, romance, and emotions so strong you choke and sob and then laugh along with the book. Bravo! I wish there was more about Lynn and Ell to come. They are amazing! The most realistic friendship I've read in a while.

Touching story with three distinct acts!

*spoilers* The writer did an excellent job of weaving a story that began with new love and unsure hearts that turned to adventure and Robinson Crusoe and finally ended with tragedy, mourning, and a celebration of love in the form of all sorts of relationships (family, friends, significant others).
I enjoyed the narrator's delivery: she had a voice that I felt matched the main character well. And her accents were brilliant and well executed--I especially enjoyed the voice she used for Maria.
All in all, it was a touching story. The writer has a good feel for characters and friendships and I enjoyed spending the hours listening to this audiobook to get to know them.

Damn book made me cry, TWICE! (ok, it was 3 times)

This book was really great. You hear about books that take you on a rollercoaster ride. Well, this one did.
Three separate times, I had to look at the time remaining, thinking, "This can't be the climax, it's too soon!" only to be proven right, and the story to twist, and get even better.
Several times, I was crushed, along with the heroine, but had to keep going along with her on her brave, heart wrenching journey. While you know how you want it to end, everything fights against it, in completely believable ways. A hard road to walk as a writer, but she pulls it off brilliantly!

Full of emotional ups and downs.

This is a story full of adventure, danger, catastrophe, survival, loss and hope. Shipboard romance becomes something stronger under survival conditions on an uncharted island. Then everything changes disastrously. No spoilers here. The characters are strong and real. There is a nice continuance or re-emergence of characters throughout the story. The narration was very good and enhanced the tale. Very engaging. Heard to stop listening.

So Very Emotional

I have a confession to make, I purchased this book and downloaded it to my Kindle a year ago but or some reason just did not get around to reading it - what a mistake! I was then given this audiobook version so I listen to it and I have to tell you I soon became totally immersed in Lyn and Braden's story so much so that I resented when I had to stop listening!

This is going to be an incredibly difficult review to write without doing what I hate and giving away too many spoilers but I will try!

Lyn's finance was killed in a car crash, the one year anniversary of his death is close at hand as if that wasn't devastating enough, her fiance was with another woman at the time who believed he was about to propose to her. At the start of this book, all the main characters are boarding a cruise ship to go on a month long vacation. Lyn is traveling with her bestie Elle who has dragged her along to make her start living again after shutting herself off from everything but work for nearly a year.

On the ship, they meet Braedon who is traveling with his sister and her family, Yuri, Jimmy, and Maria with whom they form firm friendships. But Braedon wants more, he wants a relationship with Lyn but she is resisting all advances.

This is a really emotional roller coaster of a story which involved, deep and abiding friendships, love, action, drama, danger and even death. The story takes place over a period of years during which you are never sure if there will be an HEA for Lyn, she is certainly tested. All of the characters feel real, are well drawn and are for the most part likable. If I have one little niggle it would be that at first, I was very annoyed with Lyn for her attitude, I thought she was too self-involved but as the story progressed I started to really like her and I loved Breadon.

I like my romance stories to have happy endings but at times I thought I was going to be so disappointed but I digress. For the most part, this book was one I loved, it had chemistry and love but it was clean too if I had to sum up the story in a few words they would be - emotional, moving, happy, sad. I think the best thing I can say is that I have not been so moved by a story for a very long time.

The narrator Karen Kruper did a wonderful job with this book, every inflection and emotion came across, the love, the fear, and the happiness were all there in her voice. Great work on her part in performing this wonderfully moving tale by Donna K. Weaver.

Just not interesting enough

I’m actually surprised by the super good rating for this book. I personally found it boring. I made it to the island potion of the book and wasn’t loving the story or the characters. Someone put “funny” in their description of this book and I honestly can say there was one thing I found funny even before the kidnapping. It might have gotten better and I’m glad it’s clean, it just was not interesting enough to keep me excited about finishing.
