What is life as a caregiver, and are you doing it out of obligation or through love? Being a caregiver is always a choice.
If giving care is expected because of a relationship, the result could be stress and mental fatigue. There is always a way to pass off this responsibility. If married, it could mean divorce. If it's a child, walk away and let a sibling assume the duty. To do this, however, there is a price to pay. A family rift could be generated which might never be repaired.
If employed as a caregiver, you can always quit. If you physically or mentally cannot care for another, you owe it to yourself and the one needing care to step away from this responsibility. For me, I embraced the need, and my first challenge as a caregiver was as a young child, and next as an adult.
What does it take to be a gracious caregiver? Patience and love, not necessarily in that order.
