Last 5 hours pure action

Overall very well done. I couldn't stop listening to the last part and stayed up too late. I could do with less of the political bickering, and of Long's misattribution of motives to others. And while the final battle was exciting, after the first engagement I couldn't figure out the situation. It seemed like they were just going from confrontation to confrontation without a consistent overview of the tactical situation.

Enjoyable read

I am really enjoying this series on the founding in the Manticoran navy. Looking forward to the next book

Excellent Space Opera

I am a big Honor Harrington fan and can hardly wait for more stories about Manticore and Honor. This is book two in the Manticore Ascendant series. Lieutenant Travis Long of the Royal Manticorean Navy is a mustang. Long is an enlisted man who has been given a commission as an officer. Manticore is going through a stage where it is trying to decide if it even needs a navy. Suddenly they find out how dangerous the universe is.

The book is well written, the pace is fast, and as with any Weber book there are technical details about space flight and fighting. I think the co-authors kept Weber from his usual long winded political rants. Weber is great at writing space battles and this story has some good space battle scenes. The book will keep your attention all the way to the end. The book provides information about the early history of Manticore. Eric Michael Summerer does a good job narrating the book.

Brisk, Engaging and Convincingly Human

the second volume of David Weber's Manticore Ascendant covers of similar stretch of time to the first volume. if you like the first, I daresay you will like the second. The story moves quickly for the amount of material covered and ends in typical Weber ship-to-ship combat that is both exciting and engaging.

Travistea Long strikes again and gets snubbed

More of the same but now he's an officer with a love interest. Still a stickler for the rules but still thinking outside the box.

Slow burn

Its a slow burn. High drama for one chapter consists of dog sitting. Don't come in expecting space battles for a looooooong while.

Loving it!

Who would have thunk that I would so enjoy a character like Travis Long! Excellent story and storytelling👏👏👏👏

So, my review for the last book was meant for a different series, and Audible does not allow me to correct that :(

So, I would like to correct that in this review.

This series is different from other Weber books I've read (mainly with Steve White) where the focus is mainly on one character and not the universe. I wasn't expecting that, but it was done well.

Action & Intrigue

Great narrator and excellent mix of political and military action. Some hard lessons in indirect lining your pockets to the harm of King and Country.
