Atonement theology overview
Thoughtful and reasoned. Summed up the major theories of the atonement concisely. Great primer on the topic.

Decent intro to topic
Decent intro and free(as it should be because it isn’t much). The author has some rational points but he is still thinking like a 4th century trinitarian instead of a 1st century messianic Jew.

Barely cites the Bible
I would understand if this was supposed to be a historical survey, but this book is supposed to be an argument. The fact that he barely cites the Bible is a disappointment. Moreover, modern psa has not argued that God’s wrath needs to be appeased, but rather legal demands set by God need to be satisfied. He sets aside the judicial nature of God throughout the Bible and claims towards the end that God is not bound by any thing, including judgment. This overlooks all of what God has to say about operating as a judge. This only touches the iceberg, but I highlight these to show that this work is far from solid. When I read authors, I look for biblical grounding. When Christianity becomes more than here-say and philosophy, it cannot stand as proper Christianity.
