Publisher's summary

Eve Tibbs offers a comprehensive, yet very accessible, introduction to the beliefs and practices of the Eastern Orthodox Church for Western listeners. Tibbs has devoted her career to translating the Orthodox faith to an evangelical audience, and she has over 20 years of experience teaching this material to students. Assuming no prior knowledge of Orthodox theology, this survey covers the basic ideas of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, from its origins at Pentecost to the present day.

Truly worth the listen and re-listen

I own this book, and though I usually read a textbook first and then listen to it to emphasize what I read, I did the opposite this time. Now, I cannot wait to read it and spend time letting words soak in and analyze parts that made me wonder (you know that part - when you write questions or comments in the margins to explore later). And after the read, I will listen again. Thank you, Dr. Tibbs, for your book and your soothing voice; it was truly a pleasure to listen to on my daily morning walks. This introduction to Orthodoxy truly makes one want to attend a liturgy and experience the faith in person.

Comments from a United Methodist Pastor

This book is a refreshing reminder of the multiple traditions of the church. This book provides a clear understanding of the origins of Christian theology, at times forgotten by Western Christians. By reading or listening to this volume, followers of the way of Christ will deepen their spirituality and be invited to experience the richness of the triune God.

Ok, but disappointed

As a Western Orthodox Christian, I felt a bit like a unicorn or Bigfoot.

Disappointed

I was looking for a basic introduction to Eastern Orthodoxy. However, with this book you will spend a significant part of your time wading through the author's thoughts and perceptions of the protestant and catholic history and doctrine to get to the bits you are wanting on the titled subject matter. It seems to go way beyond just context or comparison and was hard to listen to. I was hoping to learn more about Eastern Orthodoxy and less about what the author thought or felt about other denominations or biblical interpretations.
