Chiller

Takes me back about 45 years to when I would listen to dark takes on the radio. Great sound effects.

It is a better graphic novel then book

I think it would have been better if it stayed just a graphic novel.

I never have read the comic/graphic novel version of this. I listened to the audiobook and I thought it couldn't make a difference, but I think in the end it does. It seems like this story relies on visual imagery that can't really be placed in audio.

The story itself is very short, easy to listen to and at the time was a bit ahead of other things like this in the genre. However now decades later it gets lost to stories that are better and more refined. This isn't on the author though, he did great.

The story itself is a simple thirty days in Barrow Alaska, vampires and a few survivors trying to make it out. I am curious with the sequels how they pan out, but this story itself is a good, self-contained vampire urban fantasy story that would fit in with White Wolf's gaming system.

Like I said, not a bad story, but you probably get further and enjoy it more if you read the comic/graphic novel.

Great story that needed some more depth!

The voice acting was great, the story was fun to follow, but it felt like there was a lot of story missing from this audio experience. Who were the people tracking the vampires? Who else exists in this #dark and #scary world? We got some back story on the couple, and that helped create a great form of emotional attachment, but I feel like we needed more depth on the people trying to get proof of the vampires. Maybe this is opening up for something more down the line. I could see this developing into a great series.

Like listening to a play

I've only seen the movie and haven't read the graphic novel. Listening to this was like listening to a live play. The voice acting is great and the sound effects were enough to really stimulate my imagination. I liked it much better than the movie, maybe because I could imagine the scenes better than they were portrayed in the movie. I wouldn't say this story was scary but it was entertaining for the majority of its run time. I definitely can't say the same for them movie which is almost twice as long. #TheBookIsBetter #AudiblePlay #Violent #Alaska #Vampires #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

great Halloween read

this book is very fast paced and fun to read around Halloween.

I grew to respect the characters and the vampires were terrifying and cruel.

Love the Comic, like the movie and this is good

The original comic of 30 days of night is a very interesting take on what vampires are and how they'd react to news of a place where they could feed in quiet without having to worry about the pesky sun for 30 full days. It's also a fun story about a couple who was possibly falling apart, finding their love for each other again in the tragedy of a vampire attack. It's a nice short story for those who like the blood sucking remorseless demon type vampire over the emotionally sensitive and sometimes hopeless romantic vampires of the last 20 to 25 years. It also is a basic tale of human spirit overcoming the monsters in the shadows.

4.5/5 but since I can't choose that, 4 out of 5.

The story has its upbeat and hopeful moments but only spoiler I'll give is: Not everyone is going to make it but the vampires don't get away with everything.

Verry Grafic

I think the idee behind this book is really awesome, its almost like listening to a movie. Sadly that is also one of the bad points with it. You dont really get any suronding details and some of the sounds of people being ripped apart almost made me feel a little ill.
The ending pissed me of some, one freshely accidentally made vampire killed basically all of the bad guys, even those that brag about being hundreds of years old, all becouse he remembered the light of the sun and his love of his girlfriend... yeeeeaaaaah NO! >:(
So, this is an interesting take on audiobook, but in the end I prefer a normal one.

Fantastic Audible cast...

I'm not necessarily fond of books in the horror genre... but it was Halloween, I needed a new book, and this one was on sale, plus I generally like full-cast books (like this one), so in a moment of weakness I gave into the temptation...
I found this audio adaptation of a Graphic Novel to be quite well done, yes, yes... you heard that right! I know it seems kinda almost impossible for it to be done right, but I gotta give kudos to both RS Belcher and the audible crew. They took a graphic novel, a mostly visual experience, and flipped it completely around, giving us a great auditory, and more cerebral experience!
If you like horror don't wait for Halloween to come around again. Get this book... and enjoy!

Right in Between What Everyone Else is Saying

I actually pre-ordered this audiobook when it came out and then realize that it was barely over an hour. There was no way that I was going to use a whole credit for just one hour. The cash price was also outrageous, so I just decided there was no point. Luckily, last week it went on sale as the book of the day for one dollar and I was able to get a good deal.

I've read some of the other reviews and most seem positive, but there are some that were highly critical. I'm just right there in the middle where I enjoyed myself immensely, but I could also see the flaws that the others were talking about. The chewing and feeding sounds were a little ridiculous and a few other things. I absolutely LOVE Kevin T. Collins, so I was glad he was the voice of one of the main characters. The main thing that I would like to see changed is the audiobook being longer. I feel like, even though it was based on a graphic novel, they could've added more OR combined two graphic novels? Honestly, I'm just hoping they decide to do more! I had a lot of fun listening to this one.

So, as far as ratings go, I'm going to give the storyline a B- and then the narration an A-, possibly B+. The narration gets a possible high B grade, because the gnawing and other things like that were a bit lame.

Honestly, if this book is on sale or you can get it for cheaper than normal, do it! But nothing is worth full price for just one hour.

Short, but still scary

This was a fast, fun listen. It was like listening to a play and I really enjoyed the various characters voices, background noises and the way each narrator really put their all into the story.
