Publisher's Summary

Winner of the Obie Award, The New York Press Award and the L.A. Dramalogue Award.

Lisa Kron invites her audience on a roller coaster ride through the Kron family album in 2.5 Minute Ride. Rising and falling between high hilarity and deep disquiet, Kron demonstrates with disarming simplicity that humor and horror can share the same human moment. Kron's' performance switches back and forth between her journey to Auschwitz with her septuagenarian father, a Holocaust survivor; her Michigan family's annual pilgrimage to a Sandusky, Ohio amusement park; and her brother's marriage to his Internet bride. By moving seamlessly between these three diverse recountings, Kron creates a complex, and at times a startling meditation on how human beings make sense of tragedy, grief, and everyday life. Featuring original music by Dan Fleet.

Lisa Korn is an American actress and playwright, best known for writing the book and the lyrics to the musical Fun Home, for which she won both the Tony Award for Best Original Score and the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. Fun Home was also awarded the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2015.

Critic Reviews

"Ms. Kron serves up wonderfully evocative, and often seriously funny, strings of words. But it's the pauses around and beneath those words, silences that are respectful to the point of awe, that set off the emotional vibrations that won't stop." (The New York Times)

Great Story

I enjoyed her sharing of her family's story with us.

A lot of her experiences I can surely relate to myself.

This is not the type of book I normally read or listen, but I enjoyed the way she shared this story. it was very easy to follow along, humorous at a number of points and also tear jerking moments as well. It was a very nice ride.

🎭A Must Listen, Despite Volume Fluctuations

This is an extremely important listen, and the author/performer so skillfully weaves together stories of her nuclear family and her extended family that I do want everyone to hear it. Don’t spend an entire credit on it, however, because it’s a short listen, being the author’s one-woman show. It is VERY worth buying for the low (a few dollars) cash price. I’ve already listened to it twice and plan to play it for my family. The sole drawback is the fact that the volume fluctuates wildly, as if the only microphone remained stationary onstage and the performer roamed the stage, sometimes speaking while far from the microphone in what sounds like a whisper, and sometimes almost screaming into the mic itself. This requires constant readjustment of the volume, not just annoying but difficult to do while driving.

Nonetheless: This is an unforgettable experience and not to be missed. Grade: A

2.5 minute ride is a roller coaster performance

An extraordinary Autobiographical performance that is powerful, vulnerable and inspiring. Lisa Kron is a master story teller.
