Months after the apocalypse came to the former United States, the McKinney family began their trek up the eastern seaboard to a refuge in the mountains of WV. 19-year-old JC tells the story of their adventurous journey battling Raiders and zombies to reach their new home, his former Marine mother leading the way. Their small group includes JC, his best friend Annabelle, his younger sister Jules, and his mom.

Now it's a question of their Franken Lady apocalypse truck being enough to get them there before the supplies run out. It is a tale of a strong family battling impossible odds with no room for mistakes.

Fast Paced Story

This was a fun ride. There wasn’t much down time from adventure to adventure. The action kept me engaged. It was over before I was ready. The “Lady” was a character in her own right in a Mad Max way. The only person I wish had been developed more was Amy. She was a ghost. But in the end found herself in a pivotal moment. She was an ancillary character and this did not detract from the overall story. I listen to books as I drive and this was a perfect “read” for me.

Fun, fast paced story that draws you in and keeps you guessing what's gonna happen next. Ray Greenley does a great job bringing life to the characters with his narration.

Riveting Storytelling Paired With Outstanding Narration

2078: THE FALL by J. Spencer is an exciting, apocalyptic adventure that pulls you in from the very first chapter. The story follows a family navigating a perilous new world in the near future, and most of the journey is told through the eyes of James—a young man who was likely just getting his footing in life before civilization collapsed. His perspective gives the book a grounded, authentic feel. The author balances high-stakes tension with a wonderfully wry sense of humor, which makes the danger feel even more real and the characters even more human. Along the way we meet people who embody both the best and worst of humanity—kind, decent survivors and others who are undeniably depraved and violent.
Ray Greenley’s narration is phenomenal. He gives James a voice that is convincingly youthful—skilled and capable, yet still prone to the mistakes and impulses of a young man. Greenley captures the humor perfectly and makes James a lovable goof who grows and matures as the story unfolds. His range is impressive: the commanding, booming voices of authority figures, the distinct personalities of the supporting cast, and the believable portrayal of female characters all elevate the experience.
A riveting story with great narration. Highly recommended.
