Beautiful and Helpful

I would recommend this book to anyone, whether or not they have a loved one with dementia. Powell goes into depth about the realities of dementia, both in the present and throughout its complex history. If you or a family member know someone with dementia and are looking for resources this is a great choice. Powell manages to be thorough but not overly medical, and the concepts in this book were easy to understand. Although I loved the history, the most applicable chapters were towards latter half of this book.

Good read throughout....

Working in the rehabilitation/nursing industry, I could relate to much of what was brought forth in this book.... Will probably listen to it again later on in the future..... Insightful....

Dementia, let's talk about it

Even though some of this book described medicines, researh and different kinds of dementia in great detail and with names I'll not remember, I think it is a must read if you want to understand and get familiar with dementia, it's impact on families, communities and the medical world that serves it. after you finish reading, talk with your loved ones and doctors about what you'd like your care to look like if you ever suffer from dementia.

Misleading book synopsis

Was expecting to receive first hand tools and insight from caregiver to patient with dementia. Was just more rhetoric and history and complete waste of pompous research.. Severely disappointed in book.

Mostly a historical look at dementia

Don’t expect help understanding how to deal with a loved one’s dementia. It might help you plan for your own in the future, but it was not what I was looking for to help me talk with my brother, who is very lucid, but has hallucinations and confabulates.
