長屋中の嫌われ者「らくだ」が死んだ。そこを通りかかった屑屋が、長屋から香典を集めてくるように兄貴分に言われる。そして大家からは酒や煮物を届けさせるように言いつけられたが、断られたので、大家の家まで死骸を背負って乗り込まさせられる。八百屋からは棺桶がわりの樽をもらってきて、兄貴分と屑屋の酒盛りが始まる。酒が入ると屑屋が強気になり、立場が逆転。酔った二人で死骸を火葬場まで運ぼうとするが、途中で落としてしまい．．。
