I enjoy Melinda Leigh’s books. She is a fanatic author that creates wonderful characters and plots that are hard to put down. I listened to this book in less than 24 hours and loved every second of it! I’m thankful for Christina Traister’s outstanding narration. Unfortunately for me, there has been several of Leigh’s books I’ve had been forced to bypass due to the choice of narrator, specifically Cris Dukehart. I know many people may disagree but Dukehart’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears, so if you’re like me do not fear Christina Traister has a great voice and a talent for both female and male characters. She uses inflection, emotion, and cadence to bring the the majority of the pcharacters to life. However, Matt’s character was very monotone and needed some personality. Matt is a former police officer that had his career ended in the line of duty and still is dealing with the shooting and trying to figure out what’s next for himself. I think his character was interpreted as being depressed and I’m hopeful in the next book the narrator reads his character with more personality. I still rate the narration with 5 stars as I think there was a reason Matt was monotone and once the book got going I did not find his character detracting. I can not wait for the next book in this new series and my fingers are crossed for Christina Traister to narrate! The book is worth a credit. Plus if you have Kindle Unlimited it is free to borrow so stop reading review and get this book today!

Exciting Procedural - Great New Series

Let me first start by saying that I absolutely LOVE Melinda Leigh's books, so it comes as no surprise to me that I instantly fell in love with the first book in the Bree Taggert Series, Cross Her Heart. I don't think that I can say that I have been disappointed by one of Leigh's books yet, so I don't figure I will start anytime soon!

This book was so full of mystery and whodunit, that it kept you wondering until the end, who was responsible for Bree's sister Erin's murder! This book had everything I look for in an entertaining mystery novel...a strong, independent, intelligent female protagonist who would much rather do things on her own, with an assorted past filled with mystery and intrigue, a full ensemble of secondary characters that fill in the book superbly , a thrilling and intense plot that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it, and all of this comes together perfectly to make the perfect mystery/thriller novel! Melinda Leigh sure knows what she's doing when it comes to writing! She has certainly found her calling!

This is actually probably one of my favorite books of Melinda Leigh's yet, and I absolutely am on pins and needles waiting for the next release in this series! Stellar writing!

Fun twists and worth the read

The performance was well done in regards to the number of characters portrayed by one individual, but I would prefer that Matt's voice was less monotone and hopeless sounding. He came across to me as a 90s goth character.

Fantastic Story

Excellent plot; great setting; outstanding character development! This novel had me hooked before the first chapter ended.

Great characters. Great storyline. I am looking forward to next book!! Caught me from first and kept me hooked until end. Great narration.
