Publisher's summary

War has broken out in the North. The Corrupt Lord of the Ice has invaded Norghana with a host from the Frozen Continent. Will the king and the Rangers manage to stop him, or will they die in the attempt?

Darthor is seeking to dethrone King Uthar. He is on his way to conquer Norghana and take the crown. He has invaded the kingdom and has a host from the Frozen Continent at his command; Wild Ones of the Ice, Snow Trolls, Albino Ogres, Semi-Giants, Tundra Dwellers, Arcanes of the Glaciers, and creatures unlike anything anybody has ever seen before.

Uthar gathers together his armies and prepares to repel him. But not all the Norghanian nobles are with the king. The Western League does not support him, and they want to regain the crown for the West, for the Olafstones.

Lasgol and his partners will have to overcome an arduous second year of instruction at the Camp if they want to become Rangers one day. The tests will be far harder and the effort required much greater. Rivalries will surface, but so will companionship and even love. He will find out that he does not know the whole truth about what happened to his parents or about his new friend Camu. New mysteries, which he will have to investigate and solve, will arise and drive him to confront life-and-death situations.

Will Lasgol and his friends survive the second year of training? Will they survive the war? Will he succeed in solving the mysteries that surround him? Will he find betrayal...and discover the true enemy?

Great second book

A flawless continuation from book 1 great narration again. The only thing that bothers me about the MC is that he is so wimpy I mean constantly and dumb, always asking questions about everything except he’s not dumb lol. At least let him put 2 and 2 together half the time or please let him talk to girl with confidence or recognize when a girl likes you, God he’s 16 now. Ok that’s my rant on the wimpy MC. Other than that it’s all great and I’m moving on to book 3. Definitely recommend the first 2 books.

Heroism, seeking truth

Well written and well performed. Fun adventure story of a young man similar to the beloved Harry Potter.

Hopeful

Narrator was great, story was good but there was some redundancy and inconsistency from the first book. If you can get past that, and the fact that somehow nobody ever asks questions besides Lasgol and Egil, then you'll be good to go. There's more love triangles that I was expecting, I hoped for none but there are 2. But I can look past it (I think) as long as it doesn't become overdramatic. General insight. I did however see the end revelation coming from a mile away though but that may just be me.

It’s ok

This book is decent but is extremely similar to the first one. Same plot. Same everything. Personally, I think this book is very similar to Rangers Apprentice, Brotherbands, and Harry Potter series. Even the characters are similar. All in all the book is okay, but you should definitely read Rangers Apprentice, Brotherbands, and Harry Potter.

Great YA Fantasy

Both my 8 y.o. son enjoyed this epic fantasy novel. The narrator was excellent. His voices are distinct and each character has a unique sound.
Great story. There were a few standard plot devices and details, but mostly very creative YA novel. I believe that this 2nd book in the series is even better than the 1st. We will continue to read this series.
A very enjoyable read.

better

when it comes to a sequel I'm looking for everything that made the first book worth reading and then some. I'm happy to say that this was a substantial improvement over the first book. I usually go easy on the first book of any series but as we progress through the story and with the exception of the last book of a series I do not. we have real fighting in the war this time around. the king's secret is revealed but nothing is really done about it. I'm still not sure about one of the characters opposing our hero. the author has him acting as something of an annoyance while greater things are in play. there was one huge surprise that our hero encounters during his experience with the Enemy. at least it was a surprise to me. the ending of the book I think was supposed to be a surprise as well but not so much. all in all the narrator has done another amazing job performing the story. the writing is fairly good and there was no jarring whiplash like in the first book. My Hope Is that the story will continue to get better.

2nd book by author

Continued character development with a very nice pace of story telling. Without a doubt I will continue the series.
