An Exciting Installment in the New York Times Best-Selling Ring of Fire Series - the Most Popular and Best-Selling Alternate History Series

The Thirty Years' War continues to ravage 17th-century Europe, but a new force is gathering power and influence: the United States of Europe, a new nation led by Gustavus Adolphus, king of Sweden, and the West Virginians from the 20th century led by Mike Stearns who were hurled centuries into the past by a mysterious cosmic accident. While the old entrenched rulers and manipulators continue to plot against this new upstart nation, everyday life goes on in Grantville, the town lost in time, with librarians, firefighters, and garbage collectors trying to make do under unusual circumstances. And what better place for an undercover spy from France than working with the garbage collectors, examining 20th-century machines that others throw out and copying the technology (though he wishes one device - the paper shredder - had been left behind in the future)?

There are more sinister agents at work, however. One of them, Ducos, almost succeeded in assassinating the Pope, but his plan was ruined by quick action by a few Americans. Now, the would-be assassin not only has a score to settle but has also decided on two excellent targets: Grantville's leader, Mike Stearns, and his wife, Rebecca....

Great fill in.

If you have followed this series you are aware that the books have been released well out of timeline. At least 2 other books say something about the subject of this book, so it is great to get the rest of the story...

Holy fuck why?

Ok the book was prett good I was enjoying it and then once a agian out of no where they drop another faget into the middle of the story and it just does not sit well. It honestly made me stop and go why would they even. Who thought this was a good idea from one of the characters we are suppose to like and respect. Considering how strong a role Biggetry plays in this book they should have considered if dropping and faget into casual conversation by one of the good guys was a wise choice. It doesn't set up anything or explore their own prejudices it's very black white they are bad and bigets we are good and tolerant so why the fuck would they drop faget into casual conversation.

Love this Series...this book, enh.

I'm not sure any of the books in this series will ever reach the purr pleasure I experienced when I found first book. That said, this was an above average installment in the continuing saga.

if you don't love the series, I'd give it a pass. the characters are mostly pretty néw (although you will know them from prior books) and nothing exceptionally exciting happens.

It was excellent story. Very informative and entertaining. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books. What a journey.

Not my favorite in this excellent series

The book provides some much needed social setting background and interactions but at a point of being too much.
Who should slog through this is anyone who is faithful to the Ring of Fire series but be forewarned it is definitely not a capture your attention, where your wanting and being held in suspense for the next action or activity.

Nonsensical Gobbledygook.

Wow. Despite its 4-star rating this book is unadulterated rubbish. Written for folks who enjoy up-time daytime soap operas?

This book was tedious at best

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

someone who loves the dating game

What was most disappointing about Eric Flint and Virginia DeMarce ’s story?

The story was mostly about introducing new characters and who is interested in who. I about lost my mind trying to understand the interpersonal relationships and why I care.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of George Guidall?

George Guidall was great. Not his best work considering his narration of women is not his strong suit. There was a lot of female narration in this one.

Any additional comments?

I would be really reluctant to pay for another book co-wrote by Virginia DeMarce. If they are like this one I'd run not walk away.

A circumcised circle jerk

"it's terrible when they do it, so we are going to preemptively do it twice as much"
