Publisher's summary

The author of the international best seller 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do turns her focus to parents, teaching them how to raise mentally strong and resilient children.

Do today's children lack the flexibility and mental strength they need to cope with life's challenges in an increasingly complicated and scary world? With safe spaces and trigger warnings designed to "protect" kids, many adults worry that children don't have the resilience to reach their greatest potential. Amy Morin, the author who identified the characteristics that mentally strong people share, now gives adults - parents, teachers, and other mentors - the tools they need to become mental strength trainers. While other books tell parents what to do, Amy teaches parents what not to do, which, she says, is equally important in raising mentally strong youngsters.

As a foster parent, psychotherapist, and expert in family and teen therapy, Amy has witnessed firsthand what works. When children have the skills they need to deal with challenges in their everyday lives, they can flourish socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. With appropriate support, encouragement, and guidance from adults, kids grow stronger and become better. Drawing on her experiences and insight, 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don't Do combines case studies, practical tips, specific strategies, and concrete and proven exercises to help children of all ages - from preschoolers to teenagers - build mental muscle and develop into healthy, strong adults.

Common sense stuff that more parents need to hear.

The author has very good insight into how to help parents teach their kids to help themselves. Not life changing, but it definitely changes my perspective on how I parent. Good stuff.

Never Too Late

This is invaluable information. Even after all the parenting classes and self exploration and effort to educate myself, there are pearls that are pertinent and can be applied for my now 15 and 12 year olds. Thank you!!

Best parenting book yet!

Was blessed I came across Amy’s article “13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do.” Even more thrilled she’d written a book by the same title! Taken each “thing” into great depth. My daughter is struggling with anxiety & full blown tantrums, so timely for us. Every chapter has given insight to the root of the challenges plus concrete guidance on how we can adjust our parenting. It also helped me understand why there is an epidemic of anxiety, behavior issues & difficult transitions to adulthood. In an attempt to be “good parents” we’re creating unintended negative consequences. Amy’s compassionate approach & years of experience make it easy to embrace her practical advice that address the toughest parenting quagmires. I’ve been recommending this book to every parent I know. A must read!

Amazing book

This book has opened my eyes to so many mistakes I have made with my children, and so many things that I have been doing that impact them in a negative way, and I thought I was helping them! My children are 7 and 9, so it's not too late, but I wish I would have read this book when they were born, and continued to read it as they grow! The information in this book is exactly what everyone says doesn't exist, a rule book for parenting. Although this book is just insights into what will hopefully help your child develop healthy mental strength, I will be using this as my guideline for how I raise my children. I'm planning on reading this book several times consecutively to really implant the information in my brain, then rereading it every 6 months so as my children grow, I can revisit the information that is applicable to their age. This book has information for all age groups, so it will be helpful until they are past the point of me being able to influence them anymore!
Great work Amy, I greatly appreciate your insight into society and the mentality of humanity!

Not a manual but a great guide

Kids don't come out with manual, and this book is not one, but it provides a great guidance of how to raise kids without compromising values, love and character, everybody is different and there are many advices I already apply, but I found myself into situations I experience with my kids and in this book helps me and gives me the way to overcoming them

Every Parent NEEDS this book

If parenting came with a manual oh, this would be it.

It's better to build children than to repair men.

Wish I read this sooner.

Great information. Every parent should read this before they have children. It should be referenced throughout the child rearing years.
