"This irreverent fantasy is narrated superbly by author Christopher Buehlman. Along with his firsthand knowledge of the text and how he means it to be conveyed, Buehlman uses nuance, inflection, and a casual way of saying outrageous things to continually tickle the funny bone." (AudioFile Magazine)

Set in a world of goblin wars, stag-sized battle ravens, and assassins who kill with deadly tattoos, Christopher Buehlman's The Blacktongue Thief begins a "dazzling" (Robin Hobb) fantasy adventure unlike any other.

Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path.

But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Galva is a knight, a survivor of the brutal goblin wars, and handmaiden of the goddess of death. She is searching for her queen, missing since a distant northern city fell to giants.

Unsuccessful in his robbery and lucky to escape with his life, Kinch now finds his fate entangled with Galva's. Common enemies and uncommon dangers force thief and knight on an epic journey where goblins hunger for human flesh, krakens hunt in dark waters, and honor is a luxury few can afford.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Beuhlman's prose floats nimbly from grisly to lyrical and back again, evoking a damaged world that's by turns bleak and starkly beautiful. A fantastical road trip with a hard-boiled sensibility, complete with shape-shifting assassins, murderous kraken and some delightfully gruesome magic.” (A. K. Larkwood, author of The Unspoken Name)

“Wow! Truly outstanding. I can't say enough about how good The Blacktongue Thief is. Damned good stuff.” (Glen Cook, author of The Black Company)

“Equal parts fairy tale, D&D adventure, and acid trip. Buehlman has successfully blended the essences of these elements into something at once familiar and fresh. I look forward to returning to this evocative and f*cked up world!” (Jonathan French, author of The Grey Bastards)

The Blacktongue Thief is a masterclass in voice and thoughtful world design, with a wonderful cast and a protagonist who grabs you instantly. Fans of Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamora will love this one.” (Django Wexler, author of The Thousand Names)

10 stars. It was captivating, is that the correct word? I would say yes, cause I was drawn in to the prose, not wanting to miss a single word of the narrative, which Buehlman presented with magical skill. I won't stop with the audio, I'll have to get my hands on the written edition, so I can stop and savor. It's that good and so many things: witty, gruesome, clever, fun, ghastly, horrific, gentle, caring, with creatures brought to life that scare the bejeezus out of you (especially the goblins).
I won't go into a narrative of what it's all about, if you love fantasy, especially on the grim dark side with unique characters drawn in to a dangerous quest, that only comes to light at the end of the story, then don't miss this book. I just can't recommend it enough.

Never heard of it. Grabbed it because I was set to lose a credit.. so glad I did. Needed a yarn while I drywalled a Dr’s custom bathroom. Anyone whos drywalled knows the need of a god distraction. The author’s turn of phrase had me grinning like an idiot. Great adventure, fantastic performance. This is what audio books are all about. Thank you kindly.

What a nice surprise.

The Blacktongue Thief covers some interesting new territory on well-trod ground. Not sure what I liked better - the story or Buehlman's own narration. I hate to give any part of the plot, but know that this is a great page turner.

Best fantasy novel I've read in years

Blacktongue Thief is way more than I expected. I was hoping for the rollicking adventure of sword and sorcery. While certainly was A+ in that department it is also a very well-written novel. The characters are well-developed, the plot is intricate but in a way that elevates but does not burden action, and the dialogue and description supremely above the norm. Mr Buehlman seems to have a background as playwright and poet and this comes through. His main character's narration is a delightful fantasy world brogue with twists of wording that left me laughing and marveling to the point I would pull over, stop the car, and write them down. Add to this marvelous story Mr. Buehlman's own splendid narration/oration and you have exactly what audio books should be. Whether you are a lover of fantasy fiction or simply looking for a ripping good yard, do pay a visit to the Blacktongue Thief.
