A simple, behavior-first plan to go from stressed to financially free

If traditional detailed budgets make your eyes glaze over (and your bank balance mysteriously shrink), this book is your fresh start. In 12 Steps to Eliminate Debt and Build Wealth, Jay Rigler strips personal finance down to what actually works in real life: clear priorities, automatic systems, and small behavior shifts that compound into big results.

12 Steps to Eliminate Debt and Build Wealth is a behavior-first playbook for people who hate complicated budgets but want real results. Jay Rigler replaces 80+ categories with the Undetailed Budget—a five-number framework that clarifies cash flow, stops overspending, and makes money movement automatic.

Across twelve clear steps, you’ll set priorities, separate accounts, and fund a starter emergency fund (then 3–6 months). You’ll crush high-interest balances with a hybrid Avalanche/Snowball plan, right-size insurance, create basic estate documents, and invest with confidence—capturing employer 401(k) matches, contributing to Roth IRAs, and using low-cost index funds. You’ll learn how HSAs and 529 plans fit, when to pay off the mortgage, and how to keep lifestyle creep in check so wealth compounds.

This isn’t theory. It’s a simple order of operations you can follow in busy, real life—whether you’re paying off credit cards, student loans, or just not seeing traction despite a good income. Expect plain English, practical checklists, and a system you’ll actually stick with.

Perfect for: beginners and busy families, anyone seeking personal finance clarity, sustainable budgeting, fast debt elimination, and long-term wealth building through low-stress investing.

Key topics: personal finance, budgeting, cash flow, emergency fund, debt elimination, debt snowball, debt avalanche, credit card payoff, student loans, wealth building, investing for beginners, index funds, 401(k), Roth IRA, retirement planning, HSA, 529 plan, mortgage payoff, financial freedom.

I like the examples given it made it easier to relate to the material. I dislike the computer monotone voice, it made steps 6 to 12 difficult to focus on so some of it i didn't tune in fully. Great book, love the examples they are very practical.
