Publisher's summary

The growing power in Sable’s words nearly changed the world. Until she was betrayed and silenced.

A year ago, on the land’s biggest stage, Sable’s voice nearly burned down the carefully constructed lies of the Kalesh Empire. Now, Sable’s skills are merely tools in High Prioress Vivaine’s desperate negotiations with the new Kalesh ambassador, who’s denounced Sable as a zabat. A rebel. A firestarter.

Sable would love nothing more than to burn down the empire. But with threats against her sisters looming, the acting troupe driven away, and no news of Reese for a year, she’s too chained and alone to even light a spark.

Meanwhile, the empire grows on the south like a disease and stretches its poisoned fingers even into the northern lands. Desperate to fight, Sable sends details about the Kalesh to the one ember of hope kindling in the north: a small, mysterious band of rebels. Vivaine hates the rebellion, though, and her spies have discovered their location - and that Sable is more deeply connected to them than she knows. Unless Sable turns her back on the rebellion and pledges loyalty to Vivaine, the prioress will reveal the rebel camp to the Kalesh.

But Vivaine should not be so rash, because the power of Sable’s voice is stirring again, the old coals being stoked into flames. And she’s ready to embrace the title of zabat.

The Keeper Origins trilogy and the Keeper Chronicles trilogy can be listened to in any order. They take place in the same world but are stand-alone books.

I love this as much as the first

between the authors and the narrator i just can't wait for more. while her first trilogy seemed more character driving, which I loved. this story is far more indebt yet she never falters on making stellar characters. I can not wait to see what have next.

Pleasantly surprised!

This is the second book in this series. The first one didn't really catch me until well into it, and then mostly because I thought the storyline had potential. I was right. This book moves well, builds on the 1st book with no inconsistency, and develops the characters beautifully. Looking forward to the next one.

Clean and Entertaining Fantasy Fiction

I listened to the Audible version of this series and I'm curious to know if the inconsistencies and typos I heard are actually in the text. Unfortunately, my local library does not carry this text for me to check without buying the book (which I already did for the audio version).

But, besides the little annoying mistakes that an editor should catch, it's a really good story/plot and includes entertaining characters that are NOT one dimensional and stagnant (why did anyone think Wheel of Time was well written??).
Andrews stays true to traditional Fantasy lore and introduces many additional mythical creatures from her Keepers Chronicles series.

It is, most importantly, CLEAN! No objectifying women, no sex scenes, no gore, no foul language. It is SO refreshing!

Her books are guilt free and entertaining fantasy. Tolkien would be proud.

Great Story

Finally a new (to me at least) author who is gripping and doesn’t write books full of smut. I’ve read the first two books and they’re amazing!

Wonderful listen

Great story with much texture to characters and story. Never goes quite where one expects, which is fun. Kare Reading is masterful. Really a well written and enjoyable series.

Absolutely enjoying this trilogy.

I really, really enjoyed listening to this book.
I love that I can listen to a wonderful fantasy without worrying about the language or other questionable content. it is a book with all kinds of twists that keeps it from being predictable. Kate Reading is easy to listen to, & does a wonderful job with all the different character voices.
I have already recommended this book & the 1st book of the Keeper Origins, Dragons Reach, to friends & family. I know my grandkids will love them.
