My Goodness!!!

This audiobook has a HUGE NUMBER of facts! Many really interesting ones! Gosh...in one village in Norway it's illegal to die....Neil Armstrong left his boots on the moon and another astronaut hit a few golf shots while there!...The great London Beer Flood!? ...really interesting. I loved this audio-book. Great narrator too by the way, she makes it smooth and enjoyable to listen.

The anecdotes and trivia were not only entertaining, but they also inspired some intense debates at the dinner table. Some of the more unusual facts made us giggle, while others had us nod knowingly. It's as if the audiobook unexpectedly became a member of our family, joining in on our everyday routines and adding a dash of excitement to our life.

Surprising Audio Gaffes in Final Cut

I've listened to a lot of Audible audiobooks, and while there have been at times variable quality within an audiobook, this audiobook didn't actually appear to be finished. Yes, it includes the 1001 facts promised in the title, but somewhere between the 300th and 400th facts, the audio portion actually became a hot mess. I believe it's the narrator's responsibility to ensure that he or she hands in a completed project, but this one certainly was not. I also understand that Audible at least listens to part of the book to assure quality. Clearly, they don't listen to the entire thing. Somewhere in the 300 to 400 fact section, clearly the narrator, or whoever was responsible for editing the final audiobook, stopped doing so. Too many times to count, instead of a fact just being read straight through, there were pauses, stops, starts, and repeats where the narrator made a mistake (or didn’t like something) and backed up a little (or a lot) to correct it. But the errors did not get spliced out; these facts with errors did not read straight through; instead, you hear every mistake and pause. Some facts even had two or three mistakes within them, necessitating several restarts. In other places, we actually hear the narrator loudly turning pages. Quite a few times, the narrator said “track” number instead of “fact” number. I've never listened to a partially unedited Audible audiobook and hope it can be corrected for future listeners.

This audiobook did have potential. Trivia books are fun for children and adults alike, and the audiobook format makes it perfect for family road trips. Some facts are just given in the simple “trivia’ sentence, but others are told with an injection of humor or with more detail to make it more interesting. I liked both of these additions. Sometimes, a supposed fact or bit of trivia didn't really merit that title, though, as I would consider them to be common knowledge or of historical merit rather than trivia, which suggests that it should be an interesting minor detail not well known.

For the audiobook errors alone, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.
