Awful Narrations...but practically free.

readers should know that it seems all of these narrations were taken from the public domain as part of the project known as LibriVox. while it is a noble endeavor, it means that any volunteer can record and submit an audio narration of works of literature free of copyright.

However, you would think that with key works of literature like these, they would still be more picky about who they allowed to narrate. we're talking about narrations in incongruous (and very thick) foreign accents, narrators who can't pronounce common words like "strength" or "expect", and other glaring and Unforgivable issues with the recordings.

They are free however... So what can you say.

Unlistenable

What's the point of a box set that's not separated by title, you can't choose what you listen to. Even at 66 cents this was a terrible purchase

Reader is horrible.

I couldn't listen more than a few minutes. Reading similar to that of a fourth grader.

Good masterpieces

Happy with purchase and just finished listening the first part of the audio boo k, Emma. Need to be aware of that this audio is broken into multiple sections and the books are split between sections. Still very good listening

Terrible Narration/Sound Quality Fades In/Out

I can't honestly give a star rating for the story as I never listened to is. While I tried, I just couldn't get past the narration and awful sound quality. I have no idea if the books themselves are amazing, which is too bad, because I do love a good story. Ah well, lesson learned, there was a reason the price was so low.

Omnibus editionss

The problem with these omnibus editions is that there is no good way to locate a particular book you want to read as each "book" has different stories, all in an unknowable sequence, so you might open one "book" and get the ending of one story, a couple of more stories and half of the last. No way to tell which "book" has the rest of the story begun in this "book" I will not buy these editions again. They're cheep, because they are horribly frustrating.

Boring

Some of these books are like listening to paint dry. But what can I expect for the price.

Why didn't I read the reviews

OK so the books are classics and therefore you know what you are getting but the accent and performance?!

Can't get to grips with the audio.

Not for me and just ended up deleting it as I know that as trying (so hard) I am never going to listen all the way through.

Classic Story Awkward to Listen

I've only listened to part of "Emma" so far, and am hoping the other stories will be easier to hear.
The reader has a strong American accent. As I live in the UK I find it hard to listen to her pronunciation of place names and the different, misplaced stress on many words. I grew up in the USA, so this doesn't usually bother me. I'm also not favorably impressed with the various voices she creates to differentiate the characters.
